Amazon jungle trip, Madidi National Park We spent three days exploring and learning all about the jungle with our specialist guide, Ronny. We found out about hundreds of different plants, including tasting a natural anaesthetic, which made our mouths numb, and drinking water from a special tree branch! There were millions of different insets surrounding us, who knew there were so many species of ants! Each morning we were woken up by the strange sound of the howler monkey and we were lucky enough to spot a few of these rare primates amongst the tree tops! One dinner time, we saw a small tarantula crawling around the dining room and then whilst on a night walk in the jungle, our guide spotted a huge one nesting in a tree close to our hut - we made sure we tucked the mosquito net in very tightly that night! We loved watching and hearing many colourful macaws soaring to their cliff homes after a long day of hunting and enjoyed seeing the bright parakeets flying from the trees where they were camouflaged. Also, we saw hundreds of yellow squirrel monkeys jumping from tree to tree, turtles, frogs and wild mushrooms, including magic ones. We also enjoyed floating down the river on a raft made from natural resources even though the water wasn’t very appealing! On our last afternoon, we spent a few hours fishing and enjoyed eating the catfish our guide caught for dinner. An amazing trip with lots of adventures!
Pampas trip, Yacuma River After the jungle trip, we grabbed some clean clothes and headed straight to explore the wildlife around the Yacuma River. On our first day, we spotted loads of caymans, turtles and capybara, which are the biggest rodents in the world! At night, we went out onto the river to see lots of red cayman eyes reflecting from our torch light. We also got really close to yellow squirrel monkeys, who even jumped onto our boat, and spotted lots of rare pink river dolphins poking their strange shaped noses out of the water. To end our time in the pampas, we spent the morning riding horses through the swamps before returning to Rurrenabaque for a much needed shower!
