I have a moth question, I think! Do you know why, all of a sudden, I have these tiny moths that appeared in my cupboard ... Where there is rice, and crackers, and other stuff? (No flour or sugar). They are really small and now they are scattered around my house. A few here and there. Any ideas? (They are like 1/4 inch, that's all... And like light brown/gray.)
It sounds like you have a grain moth infestation. They tend to get into rice, cereal, and other dry foods in addition to flour. These are not friendly moths that got lost but invaders!
You’ve already seen adult moths, which are your best confirmation. If you want to get rid of them, just killing the adults won’t help because they have probably already reproduced. Get into your cupboard and examine any containers of dry food and the corners of the cupboard. You may find webbing on cans/jars/boxes or small worm-like larvae in the food itself. They may be more difficult to spot in rice.
Take everything out of the cupboard, vacuum it out, and then scrub it with hot water. Any infested food needs to be discarded; you can save the containers if you want but must also wash them in hot water. If you can’t determine whether some food has moths, freeze it for at least 72 hours (a week is best) to kill anything. Remove any discarded food/boxes and the vacuum contents from your house asap in a trash bag or other container away from any walls of your house.
If you are bringing new dry food into the house, put it in clean airtight containers or double up resealable bags to protect it.
Hope that helps!
