josephine’s mutation is disintegration, and up until this point, it’s an ability that has been solely limited to touch. whether it’s because she’s never thought to move past that and explore her abilities further or because she’s been afraid to (both equally likely), she’s always thought, really, that that was all she could do. and she was content with that, because it is a powerful enough ability on its own, and it’s always served her well, too. she’s come a long way since she was liberated from the labs with this alone, as she can disintegrate matter on a large scale, while moving, and for an extended period of time. (with the only downside being the welts and blisters that cover her palms and up into her forearms when she overexerts herself.)

now, though, this ability will be developed further so she’s not solely limited to touch -- in fact, she won’t have to be especially near the object or matter at all. i think brogan described it best as ‘learning how to make destruction travel’ through her and, i guess, time and space until it finds its intended target. right now, she breaks down matter/objects/whatever you want to call it into a very basic form (ash/dust/very fine powder) and that will carry over, basically, into solid objects. it’ll depend on the size of the object as it does sometimes now (she’ll start with small things and, with training, move further and further up) but the effect will be the same: whatever she concentrates on and targets will be fully and completely disintegrated into ash, unable to be pieced back together in any way, shape, or form.

(also, the closest way i can describe this -- which i mentioned to nessa -- is that it wouldn’t appear in the form of actual Visible Energy but more like magneto or jean grey’s powers, i think, where it’s more of something you don’t see happening so much as it just does. so. lots of jazz hands.)

brogan + i were also discussing how this might develop even further, and while it would take much, much longer, eventually i think this would carry over into??? being able to disintegrate air molecules and particles of time and space or whatever you wanna call it (lol #science) to create small vacuums of space or, for lack of a better word, small black holes. which is, really, where she would draw the line -- which is something else i want to explore with this, because josephine would place limitations on herself and create some really hard and fast rules of things she Will and Won’t Do with her mutation especially when she realizes? the full extent of it.
