4 squirrels on this hunt. Flint did well, he had a lot of trees but most were nests or dens.
Had a great hunt with Ember. It was in the low 50's and squirrels were moving. Knocked 4 out within an hour, took a little bit to find the 5th but we got it done. I really enjoy working with this weird dog.

We ran into a pair of grouse hunters with their Lab. The dogs were chill at first, until I caught up to the group and put my hand on Flint when the Lab came back for a second sniff. Flint decided one sniff was enough and snapped at the Lab. He completely ignored the hunters though.

Flint did good on this hunt. He had a few den trees and one I missed that ran into a hole, and one that ticked me off when I walked across a swamp and he buggered off before I got there (I really hate swamps). But for the most part he did well and we came home with a limit.
Had a good hunt with Ember this evening. Started out with a den, then a fox squirrel. Shortly after she found two layup greys. One of them fell onto a tangle and had to be blasted a few extra times to get it out (dog food lol).
There's been an increase in rabbits at this area this season, she busted off after those a few times. Ember ran out in a big loop and treed at 270 yards, I prefer my dogs stay closer but she was barking hard so I walked out there for a second fox squirrel that I shot. She messed around with some more rabbits, then treed the last grey when we were almost back to the truck.
Three with Flint this evening.
Saw one of the cross country ski guys in the parking lot. Had a couple dens, then saw some people with at least four off leash dogs running all over the place. They came from the direction I was headed and gathered up the dogs and quickly turned around when they spotted me. That ruled out more than half the area I was going to hunt in. (Working dogs are allowed off leash, pets are not. The rules are posted at every parking lot but people regularly ignore them.)
A little while later Flint treed one fox squirrel I shot, made some more dens, then I heard another small game hunter shoot. Flint tried to run over there so I had to call him back. He treed again and as I stepped off the trail to go to him some other hunter sitting behind a tree whistled at me. Flint quit treeing so I didn't need to go that way anyways.
He treed at a short tree, I didn't think there was anything in it since it was so short. As I was looking I heard one in a different tree bail and run off. Flint chased that one for a bit then returned to his short tree. Turns out the black squirrel was in it. Shot that one, another den, then the grey right before the parking lot.
