If you haven't tried adding pomegranate seeds to your guacamole, you have a pleasant surprise in store. Try this recipe and impress your friends/relatives with a super fun twist on a Mexican classic. Bonus: the pomegranate seeds help the guac stay fresh longer, and add a zesty little kick to each bite.

INGREDIENTS

4 medium ripe avocados, pitted and diced

2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

2 garlic cloves, pressed or minced

1 teaspoon salt

½ medium red onion, chopped

¼ cup fresh cilantro, mostly leaves, chopped

1 to 2 jalapeños (or 1 serrano pepper), seeded and chopped

1 medium pomegranate, deseeded (about 1 cup worth of pomegranate arils)

INSTRUCTIONS

With a spoon, scoop the avocado flesh into a medium-sized mixing bowl. Add the lime juice, garlic and salt. Mash the ingredients together with a large fork or potato masher until the avocado is nice and creamy.

To ensure that the onion flavor doesn't overpower the guacamole, rinse the chopped onion under running water (a fine mesh colander is a good bet). Pat the onion dry with a paper towel.

Add the onion, chopped cilantro and jalapeño to the bowl and mix well. Gently stir in ½ of the pomegranate arils. For extra presentation points, transfer the guacamole to an appropriately sized serving bowl now. Sprinkle remaining pomegranate arils over guacamole, along with some additional chopped cilantro and totally optional feta, if you'd like. Serve immediately.

Now, first things first—the name is a bit misleading. It’s not really a primer in the “traditional” sense of mascara primers. In other words, it won’t coat your lashes in a white primer-like liquid in order to bulk up your mascara when it goes on. Here’s what it will do.

What: A hybrid mascara + eyeliner + primer, this is the best little tool to cover that oft-missed area just below your eyelashes where the lid meets the eye. According to the site, the Tightline Mascara Primer is “your mascara, mascara primer and eyeliner in one. If you have sparse or missing lashes, the Tightline brush lays down black pigment along your entire lash line, filling in spare spots, giving you a full beautiful lash line and the look of an eyeliner.”

Why: If you love to tightline your eyes but find that your eyeliner either a) rubs off, b) runs down your whole face by end of day or c) both (yay!), then this is for you. In fact, it’s the only “eyeliner” I’ve used on my bottom eyelash area that has truly stayed in place all day without transferring.

How: Wiggle the skinny brush through your upper and lower lashes just like you would your mascara, pressing it into the root of your lash line. Due to how small it is, it’s able to put some tightly-lined color where your mascara can’t reach, and where you probably wouldn’t want to put your regular eyeliner due to irritation concerns. 

When: Before you put your mascara on. But note you can also put it on during or after as well—I actually prefer to put it on after, in order to fill in any little patches on the lash line that my mascara didn’t completely cover.
