i noticed that too. i think that entire scene was just to prove that melby wasn’t an endgame, and mel was fine with that. ruby and mel aren’t each other’s epic loves and ruby would move on and could be happy without mel. i think that’s why, when celeste asked mel what she saw in the future, mel said that she saw that “everything would be okay”. ruby was really the only person outside of the immediate core six (harry, jordan, abigael, and her sisters) that mel had any attachment to and seeing ruby would be fine was the last thing she needed to let go before she made her sacrifice.
