The Vaderdala Divorce Au
Hello there! Yes, this is what I come back to long rant posts with. Listen I actually am going to write it this time, even as a oneshot. It's just too funny for me to haphazardly toss into my WIP folder and call it a day! The basic gist is that Padme survived and went into hiding after Revenge of the Sith! However! She at least wanted to see Luke off to his new family and just…never left Tatooine. I wanted to start this at the Kenobi Show purely because I think that is the funniest and most half-reasonable place to do so, solely for the purposes of comedy. She’s staying with Obi-Wan and they sleep in the same stupid cave and hates him enough to think about punching him in the face at least twice a week. Because Padme is fairly sure this ‘Lord Vader’ guy in Imperial propaganda is totally her husband who became a Sith Lord. And is under the impression that not only does Obi-Wan know this for a fact, he’s intentionally being obtuse whenever she brings Anakin up. Not that she wants to talk about him very much.
So what does Padme do to get closure in this situation? Well…serve Darth Vader with divorce papers, of course! To his old space email of all places...so technically at his desk! If you squint!
really enjoy your vaderdala fics and i cant wait to read more :) just wanted to let you know!! keep it up!
awwww thank you!!!! i have taken a bit of a hiatus from writing because i needed a break. hopefully, i will be coming back soon. i have chapter three of 'i protect the family' on the way.
Valderdala OTP Questions: 3, 6, 11, 19, 22, 30, 47
(Answered in the context of my main fluff-taken-seriously AU, which my fic galactic kids is set in)
Vaderdala can’t really celebrate their anniversaries/important dates too openly without the Emperor realizing Vader isn’t exactly the irredeemably evil apprentice he wanted, but they always try to have at least some time to spend together on the date itself, and Vader always makes sure to get a day off within the week so they can celebrate properly.
They became official as Anidala when Padmé confessed on Geonosis, but after Mustafar they each thought the other had died. But carrying two Force-sensitive twins activated something like a Force Dyad between them, allowing Padmé to sense Anakin. She could tell he was still alive. When she heard about Darth Vader from Obi-Wan, she started to wonder if their relationship really was over, but she still believed there was good in him. Padmé went to Mustafar to find Vader, and Vader almost instinctively treated her with kindness, making her realize that Anakin was still in there somewhere. She showed him the twins, and they became a couple again, this time with their children.
What I love about them… Well, when I first got into Star Wars I loved the idea of Vader being a semi-normal father to Luke, either by Luke joining his side after ESB, Vader surviving through RotJ, or just Vader somehow winding up having to raise Luke from a young age. Leia also sometimes ends up a part of this too. Eventually, after getting more into Padmé as a character, I thought it would be really sweet if Padmé survived and was the only one who could still bring out the light in Vader aside from his children. So, yeah, that’s what I love about this ship, just getting to explore what their relationship would look like if Padmé had survived and the family had reunited. (There’s actually an adorable fancomic about this that I really love, it’s one of my favorite Star Wars fanfics, The Tinies by @silvereddaye )
The lake on Naboo is still very special to them, though Vader tries to deny it sometimes (particularly if the Emperor is bugging him about not being a good apprentice or something). The castle on Mustafar started out as a place they both hated, because it was where they’d both almost died, and it was very hard to separate the location from those memories. But eventually, they both started to see it as their home, especially as the twins grew up to see it that way.
I think the AU I’d most like to explore with them is the one I’m writing right now: Padmé survives and finds Vader, who begins to slowly turn back to the light because of her, especially as they raise Luke and Leia together.
I don’t think I associate any memes with them…
There’s no question 47, but I’m assuming you meant question 37: what did they introduce to each other? As Anidala, Padmé showed Anakin around Naboo as much as possible, and taught him about her home. He didn’t do the same for obvious reasons, but he did teach her about the Jedi and the Force as much as he could. As Vaderdala, Vader continued showing Padmé the Force, teaching her how to navigate their connection. Padmé also once (link to the oneshot where it happened) learned a simple meditation from Kanan Jarrus, and later guided Vader through it when he was stressed, so in a way she’s helping him re-learn how to be a Jedi.
there can be no trying to foreshadow anakin hurting padmé on mustafar. because him hurting her is out of character as is mustafar supposed to be. him being a sith leads to explosive but cold rage at obi-wan's arrival—reinforced by lucas's director's commentary—and perception of betrayal by anakin. there cannot be any precedent for this because the act is unprecedented.

Anidala/Vaderdala AUs I'd totally write if i had the time (aka if you write these lmk :) )
Mythology: vader as god of death/underworld, and padmé the goddess of life and love. Vader's basically a living corpse, cold (literally, as in his skin is cold cuz he's dead) and all the other gods don't feel too comfortable around him. It was said that the Father created vader from a dying child slave, Anakin Skywalker as a reminder and punishment to all the other gods aka the jedi and sith of their failures to the human bevause they were too busy fighting eachother. As he is a direct product of the father, it makes him the most powerful and fearful god. This isolates him from the rest of gods, goddesses, and godlings and he spends most of his time brooding in his throne room. One day, Padmé joins the realm and vader is immediately smitten by the maiden strolling in the fields behind his kingdom. He thinks it's a hallucination (because nobody EVER comes near his kingdom) and he thinks his loneliness has finally made him insane. He notices that she enjoys the few nabooian lilies that bloom in the fields, so he does everything in his powers to make sure they grow EVERYWHERE so that she visits everyday (but the god of death isn't the best at handling small forms of life... he has the tendency to suck the life force out of them...) Everyone's confused why vader's acting so odd but padmé finds his awkward demeanor and rambling endearing. She's also immediately attracted to him but won't act on it (ciz shes the goddess of love yknow? Conflict of interest? Abuse of power?) So she quietly waits for vader to confess first but it takes him a very long time to 1. acknowledge he's in love 2. overcome his insecurities because padmé is so beautiful and kind and so many other gods, goddesses, nymphs etc. are attrached to her and attempt to court her.
Modern au: Padmé is a prosecutor with a reputation for fighting corruption and for justice and Anakin is a lawyer at a notoriously controversial law firm, Palpatine Law, which takes on many big scandalous and political cases (and wins in what may call biased ways). He's known to be Palpatine's protegée since his days at the Republic law school (cough cough grooming much?). They come face-to-face on a particular case regarding head of Coruscant bank, Rush Clovis and Palpatine is breathing down Anakin's neck that this case is a must-win, and that Anakin must do everything to win, whether its tampering evidence, spinning tales, or bribing the prosecutors and judges- and if he does well, a promotion might be in his near future. Too bad for Palpatine, Anakin is a padmésexual and basically fumbles through the pre-trials because he's smitten by her intelligence, unwavering faith in justice, beauty, and kindness, and everything about her.
Idk what au this is its more of a trope: vader daydreaming about being some bright knight that comes to padmé's rescue from an evil dark beast and she falls in love with him for his heroism. Then he realises that he is the beast and that fantasy would never be fulfilled, at least, not with him being the knight. He proceeds to crash out over the fact padmé will never find him attractive.
Rebel padmé/sith raised anakin au: this takes place at the fall of the empire. The rebels have won, Sidious is dead (killed by Vader who was in the middle of overthrowing him as the rebels attacked) Vader has been captured by the rebels and is awaiting his fate. They basically pump a crazy amount of drugs into the guy to suppress his powers (as it turns out, one dose isn't enough for the Chosen One). As his training as Vader is all in the dark side, the absence of the force basically awakens a very naive, confused, woozy Anakin. Padmé finds this oddly endearing and no matter how many times Obi-Wan berates her, she goes to interrogate Vaderkin by herself despite being non force sensitive. Anakin immediately thinks she's an angel and a small part of him manages to remember that Vader also had a crush on Amidala as a child and he secretly harboured fantasies of making her empress and he basically confesses this all to Padmé. Obi-Wan on the other hand has growing suspicions that Vaderkin may be the Chosen One, so the rebels/remaining jedi basically start experimenting, slowly decreasing the force suppressant dosages, and this is evident as vader starts to awaken. This is slightly awkward for Padmé and Vaderkin, because both are well aware of their feelings for one another (Vader can sense it) but they can't really do anything about it.
Or can they? *elopes in a prison cell*
