So many work and life things
-got nominated for teacher of the year. Had to prepare my resume and write a personal statement. Now need 3 letters of recc, 2 lesson plans for the last 30 days with reflections, and another personal statement. I very likely won’t make finalist (I don’t play show pony well, and I’m not super in the public eye with what I do. Not to mention they rotate it around the schools and someone from mine won two years ago) but wtf ever. Dad and Mike want it for me, and it’s nice to be recognized. I don’t mind writing, but lord knows I haven’t actually opened a lesson plan template in a bit. Do I have them written out to cover my ass? Absolutely. Are they as valuable as my agenda slides or video tutorials? Fuck no.
-I have freelance work for the communications firm again. It feels good to stretch my brain and make designs that will be used by an actual business. I’m excited and relieved boss lady still wants me, I went like six months with crickets and thought I pissed her off. But I’m starting to suspect Feb-June is her busier season, while June-Jan is quieter, so that’s when she needs the subcontracted support
-It’s K-8 arts magazine time again, so that means I fight with inDesign and get Weird about type layout. But also I feel enriched/challenged and I’m making something professional, again. Also. Money for scuba.
-My children are being very Not Professional. No one is being an ass to me but Le Sigh, there is no drive or ambition, and my intro class this semester is a bunch of unmotivated potato’s.
-The Yam is so, so Back baby. He jumps up to yell at me when I enter the room again. We try to attack fingers again. He’s claimed a new corner. I’m so happy he’s enjoying life again. I truly thought I was going to lose him and I kept breaking inside every time I had to flip him right side up. I hope we never have to go through that again.
-either the RODI or the octopus skimmer arrived today. #BigSalty
-had to tell a comp sci freshman I was out of my depth with what he was trying to do this morning. (“For” conditionals with int). He figured it out and loved teaching me, so win there (it slid off my smooth brain, no one tell him) The algebra teacher and I commiserated post conference again about how badly she loves teaching Comp Sci, and how badly I do Not. Pls, ffs admin, give it to the more qualified and passionate lady.
-super neurodivergent internet kid middle schooler and I bonded over Lemon Demon today. He’s grown up a lot this year and while he put me through the wringer last year (eloping, hiding under tables, drastically large stimming movements) he has made so much progress and matured. Came over, side hugged me today and politely told me he could see I was helping someone else and he would wait his turn. Big deal for him ❤️
-thanks if you made it this far. tuba cute. Robit cute. February needs to be over but we all also know how I feel about most March.
