Gilbert Blythe x Fem! Reader, Ruby Gillies x Fem! Reader (platonic)
Requests: here and hereÂ
Authors note: These two requests are similar, so I decided to merge them together. This also steered a lot more to Ruby and Y/Nâs friendship, so I kinda have a love hate feeling towards this fic.Â
Warnings: Kinda obsessed Ruby? Jealousy (as the title suggests),slight bullying, not 100% true to plot
Word count: 1,471Â
Y/N has always been close friends with the girls of Avonlea. All of them had practically grown up together, sharing secrets and talking about crushes. She had also always known that Ruby was in love with Gilbert Blythe. Ruby would be livid if anyone else had a crush on him, and everyone swore to not like him, no matter how handsome and kind he was. Y/N herself even promised Ruby that she would try to get the two together, only if she could be a bridesmaid. But what Ruby didnât know, was that Y/N also liked Gilbert, but she had never mentioned it to anyone.
Years and years went by, but nothing had changed. A new girl named Anne even joined the school, and she too got the âGilbert is off-limitsâ talk. Anne did seem a bit scared at first, but she also eventually got used to it.
âDid you all see Gilbert today?â Ruby exclaims as the girls take out their lunches.
âYes, he goes to school with us and you're always talking about him!â Josie replies in frustration.
âNo, I wasnât going to speak about just him today. I was going to ask if you saw him this morning! He was talking to a girl.â
Y/N started to feel slightly nervous, but she kept listening to the conversation.
âA girl?â
âYes, Tillie. A girl, about our age. I couldnât see her face, but I wonder why he was talking to her.â
âI donât think it's any of our business on why he was talking to her.â Diana retaliates.
âBut what if heâs in love with her? What if sheâs in love with him?â Ruby has tears in her eyes when she says this.
âRuby, I donât think thatâs the case, if it was, we all would know. Right?â
âI hope thatâs the case, Anne.I really do.â
She didnât say anything else, none of the girls did. They all ate their lunch, everyone but Y/N tried to figure out who the mystery girl is.
The sky was orange and pink, clouds scattered everywhere. It was still fall, which made it convenient for Gilbert and Y/N to meet up. Today, she decided to go to his house and tell him about what happened. Not caring about her appearance to much, she ran to Gilbertâs house.
âGil! Open up!â
A yawning Gilbert opened the door, and smiled.
âHey! I didnât expect you to come over today.â
âI didnât expect to come over either, but something happened today that I wanted to tell you about.â
Gilbertâs smile drops, quickly letting her in. What the two didnât know, was that a boy was watching, one that shouldnât be trusted with secrets. That boy? Billy Andrews.
He was standing close by, and when Y/N entered the house, he went closer.
âWhat happened today Y/N/N?â he hears Gilbert, who sounds worried
âToday, Ruby was talking about how she saw you with a girl. She saw us, Gilbert. Thankfully she didnât see who the âgirlâ was but I just canât stop thinking about if she finds out. Our friendship will be ruined forever and-â
She was quickly cut off by his arms around her, pulling her into a hug, and then giving her a small kiss on the forehead.
âItâs ok. Ruby wonât find out... And if she did, Iâm sure she wouldnât be too mad.â
âI hope thatâs the case, I really do.â
Sure, Ruby hadnât found out, but Billy certainly did.
Days went on, and nothing too interesting happened. Ruby continued to gush about Gilbert, the other girls continued to pretend that they were interested, Mr. Phillips continued to give the students a very hard time, and Y/N and Gilbert kept meeting up.
What was different, was the fact that Billy had kept spying on Y/N and Gilbert. He kept collecting small bits of information from their conversations, just waiting to use them against the two. After all, he never liked them anyway.
However, on this particular day, the class had decided to stay behind to play a game. The class sat in a circle after Mr. Phillips had left, waiting for Josie to explain.
âWhomever the bottle points to, you are permitted to kiss.â she made sure to look at everyone as she said this. âIt needs to be boy-girl, boy-girl.â
âWhere does that leave Cole?â Billy sneered
The class laughed, but Y/N wished she could punch him.
âJane, go sit next to your dumb brother. Tilly, you're over there... and Anne, switch places with Charlie.â
Gilbert sat quietly in the circle, the one day he had decided to stay behind, they were playing spin the bottle. With Y/N and Ruby there. But, if Y/N and him kissed, Ruby couldnât get mad.. right?
The first round, Diana and Moody kissed, and then Anne and Cole, and before he knew it, it was Gilbertâs turn.
Gilbert took a deep breath and slowly spun the bottle, desperately trying to avoid eye contact with the h/c girl he so very loved... However, the odds werenât on his side today. As he slowly looked up to see who the bottle landed on, he met Y/Nâs eyes. Both of them immediately froze in place, Gilbert seeming more nervous than the other.
âWhatâs wrong, Blythe? Are you too scared to kiss your girlfriend in front of us? You embarrassed for having to date her? Câmon, donât be too scared, she's not as bad as carrots.â
The whole class gasped, and Ruby looked over at Y/N.
âWhat heâs saying.. Isnât true, right?â
âNo, of course, itâs not true Ruby, you know Iâd never hurt you-â
âShe's lying,â Billy replies. âI saw them, meeting up, for weeks. They so desperately tried to hide from you.â
The short blonde girlâs eyes filled with tears. Never in a million years would she think that her best friend would betray her. Without thinking twice, Ruby ran out of the room.
After a moment of hesitation, Y/N runs after her, quickly catching up to Ruby, whos standing outside of the small school.
âRuby...â
âShut it Y/N! I canât believe you were seeing Gilbert behind my back. All this time, I trusted you. I trusted that you wouldnât talk to Gilbert, but you did. You knew that I liked him, yet you still went and stabbed me! Right in the back.â
She couldnât even deny what Ruby was saying, because it was all true, and she felt terrible. Ruby and Y/N have been best friends since day 1, and when Ruby told the girls about her crush, Y/N wasnât sure on what to say, because she knew she like Gilbert too. Seeing her best friend standing there, tear-stained cheeks, it killed her.
âRuby. Please, let me explain.â
Ruby didnât reply, as she tended to do when she was upset, but slightly looked over at the other girl, which was all she needed to start.
âIâve always liked Gilbert, ever since I saw him. And Iâve always liked you. You were my first friend, and weâre the closest two friends in the group. So, when you told us that you liked Gilbert, I didnât know what to do. I wanted to be a good friend, so I tried convincing myself that I hated him. I tried not to think of him, or talk to him, or even look at him! But it turns out he liked me too, he had liked me for a while. So, I tried to meet up with him secretly, so I wouldnât hurt you. I know I probably should have told you, and I know you probably donât forgive me, which is perfectly fine, but I hope we can still be friends.â Y/N finished, almost breathless.
âYour right. I donât know if I can forgive you this very moment. However, that doesnât mean I donât want to stop being your friend, but I really, really wish you told me sooner.â A small smile forms from Rubyâs lips after this statement, like she's about to say something else.
âWhat? what is it?â
âIs Gilbert a good kisser? I mean, Iâm still mad but-â
The two burst out laughing.
âHonestly Y/N, I donât think I could ever hate you, but itâll take me time to stop being mad at you... I should go back inside though, everyoneâs probably stopped the game.â
âYeah.. we should.â
They head back into the back room, where everyone is staring at the door, waiting for them to come back in.
âIs your argument over already? Well, good. Weâre still playing, and Gilbert still needs to kiss Y/N before we move on.â
âWell, what do you say Y/N?â
âI say we get it over with before Josie bursts into flames.â
Gilbert smiles and then puts his lips against hers, and to answer Rubyâs question, Gilbert Blythe is a good kisser.
You May Be Delusional, But That's Why I Love You: Ruby Gillis x Reader
Your P.O.V
Ruby is crying right now, and I comforted her. That's what I always do, especially because I feel bad when she cries. She eventually stops crying, looking up at me with those innocent eyes. "How are you always so patient with me?" She asked, and I chuckled softly in response. "I just love you too much." I said, and she got surprised. "You may be delusional, but that's why I love you." I said, and she smiled. "Aww! You're so sweet! This is why I fell in love with you!" She said with a smile. "Yeah, but you're more sweet." I said while smiling back, and she giggled. "Let's go hang out with our friends now, ok?" I said, and she nodded. We then walked out of the house together. The end!

Summary: When the kids at school spot Gilbert writing a love note to someone in class, they canât help but want to find out who.
The next week was torture for Gilbert. No one was talking to him or telling him anything. He tried throwing pebbles at Y/Nâs window to get her attention. When dhe saw it was hum, she closed the blinds. There was never a good time to talk to Cole.
Today was different. Anne and Diana were taking Y/N and Ruby somewhere to mend their friendship. So Cole was left to his own devices.
âWhat do you mean, Y/N?â âRuby...I...I was in love with you! And you didnât love me back! And it feels like youâre rubbing in my face by constantly fawning over Gilbert!â âIâm so sorry.â âLook just forget what I said. I hope you and Gilbert are very happy together.â Y/N gave Ruby a small, forced smile before walking away quickly.
âWhatâs going on with Y/N and Ruby? Are they still mad at me?â Gilbert said, catching up to Cole. Cole rubbed the back of his neck. âDiana and Anne blame you for ruining a friendship, but Ruby and Y/N are a little preoccupied with getting their friendship back to normal.â âDo you think when this all blows over, Y/N and I can be happy.â Coleâs heart hurt for everyone involved. Gilbertâs heart beat only for Y/N. And Y/Nâs heart beat for Ruby as far as he knew. And Ruby had only ever had eyes for Gilbert. He knew that whatever happened, someone was going to get hurt. âY/N is the most loyal person Iâve ever met. And you know how Ruby feels for you. The only way is if Ruby tells her that itâs okay.â Gilbert nodded. âThank you, Cole.â He said, walking home.
Anne and Diana decided that sticking Y/N and Ruby in a closet together was the only way to save their friendship. âIâm sorry if what I said upset you, Ruby.â Y/N tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. âIâm sorry that I hurt you.â âYou didnât mean to.â âBut I still did.â Ruby couldnât bring herself to look at Y/N. She felt too ashamed. âDo you have any feelings for Gilbert or were you so angry at me that you wanted to hurt me?â âRuby, I loved you. I wanted you to be happy even if that meant without me me. I would never deliberately hurt you like that. Especially like that, I know how hard it is to see the person you love fall for another.â
Ruby looked into Y/Nâs eyes. âIâm so sorry for what Iâm about to do.â Y/Nâs eyes widened. âRuby wha-â She was silenced by Ruby kissing her. Y/N had imagined this moment for years. But not like this. This was a pity kiss. Y/N pushed Ruby away. âI canât do this, Ruby. Not again. I wonât let you lead me on just to hurt me again.â Hurt immediately filled the Gillisâs girlâs eyes. Y/N banged on the door. âLet me out!â
Anne could hear the heartbreak and wavering in Y/Nâs voice and opened the door. âAre you okay?â âI need to go. Thank you for trying to help, but I fear there isnât much you can do.â
Gilbert wasnât having much luck finding Ruby. She wasnât home. She wasnât at Anne or Dianaâs house. Only one place left for her to be. Y/Nâs house. Gilbert found her walking towards Y/Nâs House too. âRuby!â He called out, catching up to her. âI need to talk to you.â âWhat?â She said. Gilbert noticed she sounded sad. âI like Y/N. I think I love her. And I know that she would never start anything with me as long as you donât approve. Please, please tell her youâre okay with it.â Gilbert pleaded with her.
Ruby wanted to tell him no. That she would never approve of any relationships of Y/Nâs. But Y/Nâs words echoed in her head. âI loved you, I wanted you to be happy even if that meant without me.â Swallowing her true feelings, Ruby choked out. âTell her that I approve and that I finally understand the sacrifices she made for the one she loved. Tell her I want her to be happy.â Gilbert looked confused. âI want her to be happy. And it seems like you make her happy. But if you ever hurt or mistreat her, I swear youâll never be happy again. Y/N brings a happiness with her affection and the moment youâre without it, it feels worse than death.â
Gilbert smiled at her. âI will love her til the day I die.â âSo will I.â Ruby muttered.
Y/N laid on her bed, crying. This wasnât fair to Gilbert. Y/N had feelings for him, but a part of her would always love Ruby Gillis. It was time to put that part of her life behind her, but it felt like Ruby wouldnât let her. A knock on her window shook her from her thoughts. It was Gilbert. âHi.â He whispered shyly. âHi.â She blushed. âListen I know what youâre going to say. I talked to Ruby. And she said that she approved of us becoming a couple. She always said that she finally under the sacrifices you made for the one you loved. She wants you to be happy. Truly happy.â Y/N let the words sink in. Ruby had feelings for her. And pushed them aside so Gilbert could have a chance. âI like you, Y/N. And I know that a part of you likes me too. Or else you wouldnât have met me kiss you.â Y/N blushed as she thought of her kiss with Gilbert.
Gilbert leaned closer to her. Deciding that Gilbert would be her future and Ruby would be her past, Y/N leaned forward and captured Gilbertâs lips with her. They pulled away when they needed air. âI like you too, Gilbert.â He smiled warmly at her. âGood or this would be would be really awkward.â Y/N giggled. âDoes this mean your my girlfriend?â âYeah. It does.â Y/N said, lacing her fingers with Gilbertâs.
Ruby stood outside the house with tears running down her face. She could see Gilbert climb through the window. And she knew that it meant Y/N had accepted his affection. She began her journey home and thought of what her life might be like if she had accepted her feelings for Y/N earlier.
The next day, Y/N came in smiling. It was brighter than the sun. That recess, all the girls sat in a circle and asked Y/N questions about her relationship with Gilbert. Gilbert kept sneaking glances over at Y/N. Finally Ruby couldnât take it and left the circle. Gilbert caught up with her.
âI know why you left.â Fear blossomed in Rubyâs chest. What if he forbid Ruby from seeing Y/N? What if he told Y/N? âYou love her.â Ruby didnât see any disgust or anger in his eyes. Just sympathy. âYeah I do.â âIf it were anyone else, I would step away and let you be happy. But I love Y/N. I see a future with her.â Ruby nodded.
It seemed like Y/N was the future Mrs Blythe and there was nothing she could do about it.
