Asus RT-N66U router
This router is a finicky bitch. I’ve put over three years worth of trial and error into this thing. When it works, it works great. When it doesn’t, you’ll have a hard time trying to figure out your home network and narrowing down the problem.
After countless hours of factory resetting and upgrading the N66U’s firmware with the many variations out there, to see if it would fix my horrendous upload speed problem (it became so bad that eventually it was stuck under .2mbps), I finally took a look at the thing and gave it a manual hard reset by pushing the tip of a pen against the reset button on the back of the device.
Lo’ and fucking behold, after configuring the wireless and QoS settings again, everything’s faster and back to normal.
My SB 6141 was fine. I knew it was strange that with strong signals, I was only getting 30mbps DOWN/.5mbps UP. No uncorrectable errors.
It doesn’t matter what firmware you have for the N66U. Whether it to be tomato or merlin, or merlin-fork, this device will eventually slog down over time due to some internal congestion I don’t know about. It needs to be hard reset after every few months to for it to function poperly.
I’m just gonna finally cave and get the Archer C7 if it happens again in the near future.
