SUMMARY: As the nights slows down, you end up meeting Joel, a man who decided to keep you company as your other friends have left you alone at the bar.
---
You remember the sound of throbbing music as you sit at a bar, perched on stool; sipping at your drink. You’re friends had long since found dance partners, but you had settled in to watch, content with your own company. Still, you couldn’t help but notice the sound of the chair beside you move, despite how absorbed you are in your phone and drink. For a moment, you do not look up, but eventually peer across at the man who now occupies the pace at your side as he orders a drink. His hair a wild mess, stubble showing and smouldering eyes bright, the bags under his eyes predominant as you realise his attractiveness.
He looks to you, then to your drink, squinting at your now empty glass as you lower your eyes, slightly embarrassed. “Hey, can we get another for the lady here?” He asks of the bartender, who looks at you with raised eyebrows, and quickly nods. “Thanks” you say, casting your eyes to him again, watching as his lips quirk at the corners. “No worries” he replies, “No use having an empty glass.” You laugh at this, offering him your hand as your drink arrives. “I’m Y/N” you say as an introduction, and he grasps your hand firmly, shaking it. His overwhelmed your own, making you feel small and comforted with his touch. “Joel”, a smile lingering on his lips. He releases you, almost reluctantly, taking a sip of his beer. “So, Y/N” he begins, watching you carefully as you pull your glass towards you. “What are you doing sat up here, all alone?”
A shrug from you causes him to narrow his eyes, and you attempt to explain. “I’m the last one standing out of my friends”, you say, motioning towards the dance floor. With a sinking heart, you see the final member of your group being escorted out of the door, waving at you as she leaves with two others. Joel follows your glance, and you sigh, running your fingers through your hair. “And... there they go.” He laughs loudly, patting you on the arm. “Looks like we’re in the same boat” he admits sheepishly. You cast him a questioning glance, and he shrugs. “I came here with friends too,” He turns in his chair, facing you and searching the room “but it appears they’ve actually all left.” You giggle, also moving to give him your full attention, leaning into your hand, elbow resting on the table. “Billy no mates, right here” you joke, pushing against his shoulder with your spare hand, he bats at it playfully, scrunching up his nose. “Oh, fuck off, you’re just as bad.” You make a face at him, taking another drink. You are hyper aware of the heat from his body warming your right side, finding yourself more and more attracted to the man.
“Nah” you reply into your glass, pressing it to your lips. “I got you, now.” His eyebrows shoot up, his smile widening. “I guess you do.” He holds up his beer, and you clink your glasses together. “Stuck with me, and about eighty other bodies in this tiny fucking room.” You roll your shoulders uncomfortably, leaning in closer to him. “Well, there’s a nice little Chinese take out across the road” “You’re right,” he scratches his beard, “And nothing goes better with alcohol than good food...” Finishing your drink, you stand, readjusting your small black dress to better fit your thighs. “Well, what are you waiting for?” He, too, downs his drink with a grin, standing beside you; offering you his arm. “I’m waiting to find out that this isn’t a dream” he jokes nervously as you make your way out of the building together. You look up at him, a hint of concern in his eyes. Bumping his hip with your own, you laugh. “Worried I’m acting with beer goggles?” you ask, and he nods. “More worried that it’s gonna be one of those things where I wake up in the morning and you won’t be there.” “Well” you bite your lip, holding onto his arm tighter “Guess we’ll find out in the morning. I won’t run off if you don’t”.
---
You roll over, pushing out your hands, you feel his warm chest under your fingertips, naked body so close to your own, smiling through the haze of the early morning. Pulling yourself closer, you entwine your legs with his, nuzzling into the crook of his neck. He breathes a deep sigh, turning his face to press into your hair, breathing you in with a smile on his face. He kisses your forehead lightly, wrapping his arms around you tightly. “Told you I’d be here in the morning” you mutter sleepily, and he lets out a gentle throaty chuckle. “Yeah” he breathes, “Now tell me that every morning will be like this with you.”
