Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch. Rating: 4.5 stars.

Read from August 11th to 14th.

I absolutely didn’t think I was going to finish this one as quickly as I did. It only took me four days to read this long and dense fantasy novel that I really enjoyed. I will say that a lot of my free time during those four days was devoted to reading. For those who may not know, this is the second book in the Gentleman Bastard series about Locke and Jean who are two con artists that were raised under the tutelage of a master con artist. This one had a lot of the banter and wit that I loved but I still found myself missing Camorr and the whole world from book one that we left behind.

I love Jean Tannen so much and I think that has only increased upon reading book two. I will say that I was a bit concerned about him for a minute there. But there’s so much to love about this big burly guy who can quote poetry and kick your ass at the same time. (Are you swooning yet? I am.) I also love the scrawny master mind that is Locke Lamora. I think one of the things that most draws me into this world, aside from world building and setting and the general beauty of the world, is the characters. The author does such a great job of making even the most minor character a well thought out and developed person. Also, the narrative style and the sense of humor that the author pours into the writing are exactly my jam.
