Earlier this week the new Goldstein Library was opened to the public following the ceremonious passing of the books and a soft launch for faculty and staff. Over 200 Ringling College students, faculty, and staff participating in passing 200 carefully selected books from the previous Verman Kimbrough Memorial Library to the new Alfred R. Goldstein Library, snaking across campus—and across an intersection!—to usher in the newest facility on campus.

Inside you’ll find three floors filled with computer labs, student lounges, work rooms, cafes, and of course, an awe-inspiring amount of books and artistic resources available to students 24/7! Large enough to house the entire Ringling College collection at 46,000 square ft, the new library offers 65,000 books and periodicals and 10,000 additional items, such as DVDs, games, and Blu-Rays.

Upon entering the library, you’ll see a three-story mural created by Ringling Fine Arts alum Julie Kanapaux (class of 2000). Her artwork, Momentum, was selected from over 200 entries as part of a campus contest open to Ringling College students and alumni. This week’s opening marked its unveiling—congratulations Julie!

Finally, a huge thank you to donors Isabel Norton and Carolyn Johnson for their incredible fundraising efforts and to Alfred Goldstein, long-time friend and supporter of Ringling College, for helping make this facility a reality.

Awards Ceremony: Friday, April 7th, Roskamp Exhibition Hall, 5:00 pm The evening will start with an awards ceremony in the Diane Roskamp Exhibition Hall at 5:00 pm, followed by opening receptions in the galleries and on the 1st Floor Goldstein Library Terrace from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

Opening Receptions: Friday, April 7th, Campus Galleries, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm The galleries will host opening receptions following the award ceremony for the annual Best of Ringling juried exhibitions, which showcase the top art and design projects created by Ringling College students in every major. The exhibitions are free and open to the public, allowing members of the community to view a diverse range of work created by students in the following departments:

Light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served at the receptions, and Pop Craft will be stationed in front of the Academic Center.

"Sugar" Web Series with Dylan McDermott

Students and alumni of the Ringling College Film Program and acclaimed actor, writer and director Dylan McDermott recently wrapped production of Dylan’s new web series ‘Sugar.’ Shot on locations around Sarasota and in the studio, ‘Sugar’ chronicles the life a young woman who becomes a victim of human trafficking and who, in the depth of her despair, manages to find hope - and herself.

Mark Ruffalo Delivers Smashing Commencement Address

Filmmaker, actor, and activist Mark Ruffalo imparted his honest and much-coveted insights for following a creative career path to a captive audience of Ringling College graduates, families, friends, faculty, and staff.

Ringling College Film Junior Puja Kolluru was interviewed by Variety Magazine for the article “Film Schools Open Path to Hollywood Diversity”  , where she provided a strong closing paragraph for the article, which follows:

“Filmmaking is so much about perspective,” says Puja Aparna Kolluru, a native of India who earned an international scholarship to attend Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla., where she is studying cinematography. “Having so many different people from around the world and from so many different backgrounds has been really eye-opening for me and also my classmates. You need that point of view when working in film. You need that kind of environment. Sometimes in class, students will write stereotypical Indian characters and I can tell them, ‘No, they are not like that.’ So diversity is a very good thing — for everybody.”
