So, today a tape arrived at my door. Yes, a tape and I even paid for it. I honestly can't remember when the last time was that I bought one. One of the few times I can remember is when I bought some tapes in a record shop somewhere in the USA half a lifetime ago...at least... and I remember my brother buying something of Howlin' Wolf on a flea market in New Orleans. And I remember lots of self made mixtapes. However, today's tape is the release of Stagecoach in honour of the record store day 2012 (a couple of days ago by Alcopop Records!) and by now sold out as a physical copy...sorry for not letting you know in time (but it's still available through online retailers ;))!
"56k Dial-Up" is their brand new single and a mouth-watering outlook to their upcoming album. It comes with a lush mix of an old favourite called "Hang That Head" which can be found on their first EP "School Day EP". The name of the single already gives you a hint what you can hear sometimes: a bit of that sound* you heard back in the days but re-done with guitars and voices, well hidden (and sometimes I think that I just imagined it). At first I thought it's a laid-back melody and song (can't recognize half of the lyrics) but it's not really. Still not sure how to pin it down as it's just a feeling. It lies in the background vocals, the timing, the pauses when Luke sings in the beginning which almost sound like I feel when I am sort of exhausted of doing what I don't enjoy and this loop you're in.... stuck in doing things you just don't enjoy. And back then (the 90's, when you still heard the Dial-Up sound) you imagined it differently...you had dreams. Something like that but the song can be about something completely different, maybe I should have asked for lyrics before I wrote this.

St. Vincent - GROT
This is one of the coolest things I've heard in a while. It's got this weird looped vocal hook through the whole thing and then there's really doomy guitars, bass and drums over the top. It's a weird juxtaposition that probably shouldn't make sense, but sounds amazing. Just listen to it because I can't really describe it very well and it's awesome. Cool.
