In the mid-18th century, Robert Wood traveled to Syria to study the Roman ruins, which because of the arid climate, were exceptionally preserved. Today’s #rarebookfriday shows some images of Robert Wood’s THE RUINS OF PALMYRA, 1753, which is one of our recent acquisitions to the #RRBR This work fits into our collection of “Roman architecture outside of Rome.” Sadly, some of these ruins were destroyed by the Islamic State. #romeoutsideofrome #ruins #architecture #romanruins
There is a new rare book exhibit going up in the library! The exhibit, DE FRANCE: Influential Books of Architecture from France in the Ryan Rare Book Room Collection, will be on display for the spring semester. Here's a sneak peak, the frontispiece from Francois Blondel's COURS D'ARCHITECTURE, 1675, which show his design for the Porte Saint Denis. #rarebookfriday #rrbr #archlibND #newexhibit #frencharchitecturebooks (at Bond Hall)
