Bucky was…he was one of the good ones. Of course she’d heard the stories: that he was a pawn of HYDRA (who was just as bad, if not worse than TRASK), he wasn’t in control of his own mind, he was dangerous and would turn on them. At first, she’d heeded those warnings, believed them, and kept him at arm’s length. Slowly, he’d begun to work his way under her skin; she began to see the side of him that the rest of the world didn’t know. He was loyal to a fault, dedicated to his cause, brave beyond words – and willing to help instead of sitting by and watching as mutants were jailed and tortured for no reason other than the genetics they carried inside them.
“Careful, Barnes. Keep up that good-guy shit, and I’ll actually start to believe that you are one of the good guys.” He was, without a doubt, and tonight proved it. He’d gone above and beyond, helping them even at the expense of his own needs – his own revenge.
There was a smile on her face as she spoke, amused at his words and her own response.
“Besides, so what if it was a compliment? Can’t be the first time you’ve gotten one, right?” She was already heading back to the van, already counting on the others to be inside waiting. “We need to get these guys back to Sage, have her run them – make sure they are who they say they are.” Lorna didn’t like that they had to treat everyone coming into the Underground as a possible enemy, but that was just the nature of the beast. Not every mutant was on their side…Pulse, as much as she hated to say it, had been a shining example of what could happen to mutants who were held in captivity too long.
“After we do that, I need to make a run out to Birmingham, drop off some supplies. Want to come with?”
