Prev anon here. Just look in the comments of that post. People are defending her saying she is using her own money or PCharles is paying for it. Trump is using tax payers money!! Where do they think PC is getting the money for her wardrobe??? LOL……………………………..Yup, so Trump had his “personal” money the way MM had her’s, but Trump’s is a lot, lot more. So if they are going to use that excuse, it doesn’t hold up. Prince Charles pays for his son’s expenditure from the Duchy of Cornwall money. While the Duchy “belongs to the crown”, one cannot state that it is “private”. It is similar to the The Crown Estate (which funds the Sovereign Grant). The Crown Estate (which is most of London’s property, and other areas of England) technically belongs to the monarch, but she can only get a percentage of those profits, which is called the Sovereign Grant. Money from the Sovereign Grant is used for the upkeep of the whle royal family. The Duchy of Cornwall, The Duchy of Lancaster, and The Crown Estates are similar in that, they are the private property of The Crown, and has been for centuries. But the government and the monarch, through time, figures out a way to keep some of the monarch’s property as their own, without keeping the whole of friggin England as their private property. (George IV and his debts had a lot to do with this, but I won’t bore you with the details.) If one argues that the Sovereign Grant is “taxpayer’s money” then by that standard, money from the Duchy of Lancaster and Corwall is also “taxpayer’s money”. If one argues that the Sovereign Grant money is “private money”, then the Duchy money is also “private money”. The Sovereign Grant pays for the upkeep of the whole royal family, plus repairs on the castles which are not “private”, i.e. BP, KP (and some others, but I forget. Someone please let me know if Frogmore is private or public?)In truth, the only thing that is paid for by the govt. (and therefore the taxpayers) is their security. Whether the Sovereign Grant and The Duchy money is taxpayer’s money or their private income is debatable. But yes, if Duchy money is private, then Sovereign Grant is private. If Duchy money is considered public, then so is the Sovereign Grant. That’s my understanding.
