painting is hard but i love the fool
oh the other thing you need to know about realm of the elderlings is one time fitz described his sexual technique as "workman-like" and another time he killed a rat with a knife while balls deep
ok i will admit it is sort of a hard sell to try and explain how deeply moving and incredible a book series rote is and then having to admit the main character is named FitzChivalry Farseer as if that isnt the most bullshit fantasy ass name possible
rote is so deeply entrenched in generational cycles of trauma and going back to the beginning is so so painful because you see all these broken men going "here's a really fucked up part of my upbringing that I don't want to pass on" and then fuck up fitz in a whole host of other ways because they haven't actually processed the root of the trauma. chade refused to hide what fitz was being trained for because he hated that he was kept in the dark, but he still trained him from childhood to be an assassin all the same. burrich saw a witted child and decided raising him with repression and shame is better than going through the process of accepting himelf and confronting the fear of what that means. i feel like I can't even blame fitz for the tag team body burning incident with bee because in his mind, he's still better than who raised him because he isn't training her to be a literal assassin, even though he's teaching her many of the same skills and giving her many similar experiences.

small ferret you will ALWAYS be iconic
what is "rote stuff" i keep seeing you tag it
That's my tag for Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb! It's a high fantasy book series that I love so so so much. It's 16 books and broken up into smaller chunks. I think my most recent rote posts were about characters specifically from Liveship Traders (trilogy #2) but usually my rote posts are more about Fitzloved, aka the main characters from trilogies 1, 3, and 5. They're in a 60 year long situationship and are basically knight/jester if the jester's jokes were also prophecies and portents and the knight wanted to fucking kill himself at any moment. Also there's a sentient wolf there
came back wrong (lived as a disembodied soul inside a wolf for a couple weeks before being forced back into my own corpse and expected to just pick myself up and be a man again)
