it's surprisingly difficult to come up with a personality for a self insert. even one that isn't necessarily 1:1 to me
both tenna and rose have to learn to unmask but their kind of masking is different. but both of them are afraid of being unlovable. and wind up hurting each other about it
generally i go for a lightner s/i because it solves two things for me
where tenna winds up in the light world where he is guaranteed a sense of stability (which i don't think he gets with mettaton tbh)
why he's obsessed with my s/i. i think for a darkner partner to really stick with tenna they have to absurdly match his freak. rose does in ways but for some parts of her personality to work lightner is more logical. the caveat is that i actually find the lightner daily loop where they just "hang out" potentially boring so i still have to think of a plot/conflict i personally want to do. i have a year's worth of ideas just nothing solid
but lightner brings its own set of issues. i'm not convinced a fountain could be made on accident

i don't read tenna fanfiction actually UNLESS it's @/suckybuss's fanfics because it's the hottest interpretation of tenna i've come across. otherwise i gave up keeping up with tenna fics long ago. i also like a livewire and tear your little world apart (noncon warning)
the fics i like are darkner x tenna heavy because it brings out the traits i find hot in him. the side of him that sees darkners as expendable and he abuses his power because he sees him as above them (which is hard projection). but my selfship leans towards self indulgence and i want to be his favorite...which i could be as a darkner i suppose but it's not the same + i would have to worry about the logic of where we are in the light world. having that control to begin with is nice i admit even when it comes with the price of being the one with power over tenna
it's tough because i want him to care about my insert with a similar fondness to kris but i also want to see his sadistic side
i want to write a detailed sort of outline about rose but I'M AT WORK!! i'll have to lock in tonight
rose's caregivers were either too lax/neglectful or too strict and orderly and um. holier than thou so in a way tenna is like. accepting of her without being inattentive to what she wants/needs and also gives her structure/routine without being too overly hard on her. as long as she gives him attention of course. he's loving and has high expectations but when you're a lightner most of that expectation is consitent attention and making sure he doesn't feel like you're throwing him out any day now. but rose would take interest in the show (and him) since she's creative-oriented
thanks for being my notes app. i refuse to buy a journal. but i have ideas for them having tension while making sure rose isn't cold to him. unless she's feeling spiteful and wants to be cruel
