Our first activity of the Easter Weekend - a tour of Roquette Cider Farm (with a cider tasting of course!) as part of the Channel Islands Heritage Festival. In a few short weeks these trees will be in full bloom and they will produce many many tons of apples to be made into delicious cider. Sadly we can only get one variety in Jersey (a carbonated cider) but Roquette produce another seven types of flat cider, which I preferred. We got the chance to try all of them (in unlimited quantities) as well as some Guernsey cheese and chutneys. And all before noon! Kudos to Craig, who led the tour. When I emailed about the tour he emailed back to say that it was only 3 days after his birthday and he hoped he would be sober for it so I was expecting a young-ish man. Craig must have been over 80 and had a devilish sense of humour. His tour was informative and funny and he didn’t waste any time getting us to the tasting part. I’m in Guernsey 🇬🇬! This is my first visit to another Channel Island despite having lived in Jersey for over 4 years. Today we went on a tour of Roquette Cider Farm, which was part of the Channel Islands Heritage Festival. The tour was run by Craig, who was both informative and funny. When I booked the tour via email he joked that it was three days after his birthday and he hoped he’d be sober again so when we arrived I expected a relatively young man but he was about 80 and going strong. This is a new pressoir (an apple press used to crush apples to make juice and cider). I love the feature that has been made using an olive tree planted in the middle and local granite stones for decoration. The tour ended with a cider tasting (of course!). Unfortunately we came over on the place with hand luggage only so no chance of bringing any cider back to Jersey. Roquette Cider is available in Jersey but not all the varieties. I really like the still varieties that were less sweet than the carbonated cider.
