Daily Featured Flag #4: Guernsey
Today's featured flag for 30 June, 2026 is the flag of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a Crown Dependency of the United Kingdom. This flag design takes the original St. George's cross design- that is, a design identical to that of England, although one does not strictly descend from the other- with a traditional golden Norman cross in the center. As it turns out, both Guernsey and its neighboring island of Jersey have their own languages and do not speak traditional French nor English. These languages are descended from Norman, the language of William the Conqueror and many of his first descendants, and the language which cause English to have so many of its most fancy words. This Norman cross makes a whole lot of sense with that added conquest, and also makes the flag a lot more unique than it would've been had it not been changed in 1985.
