Drawing 26 of 50. I enjoyed drawing this Ropalidia saussurei today while it's been storming pretty hard. I'm quite disappointed with the scan, however. It doesn't captivate the true hues of different greens. I will have to figure out a way to scan the drawing again by capturing the true colours. This species is native to Madagascar!
Emerald paperwasp Ropalidia saussurei
(Suggested by @rorybluez! Style is a bit different from the tarantula hawk but I hope you like it nonetheless, thank you for bringing these awesome little creatures to my attention!)
I struggled with this beauty a bit but I love her. Why is she so green.
Social species like this are what most people think of when they hear "wasp", but only a small handful of (sub)families actually share this lifestyle! By far most wasps, from the tiny fairyflies to the famous tarantula hawk, live as solitary parasitoids.

Which arthropod next?
Dicromantispa sayi
Vespa crabro
Scutigera coleoptrata
Limulus polyphemus
Other? Comment!
You can look them up or go by vibes :D If you suggest something else and it doesn’t win, I’ll add it to my list for the future!
It was cool to see this clothesline nest of Old World brown paper wasps (Ropalidia revolutionalis) at The Forts on Magnetic Island (at the gun post). These paper wasps are known to make long, stick-like nests that may(?) be difficult to attack by larger hornets. I guess when you need to make such a thin nest larger, you either make it really long or break it into a bunch of nearby pieces.

Just some last 'Bits and Bobs' that I observed on my walks around Deception Bay. Recording just some of the crew that run the Life Support System that keeps the Biosphere functioning on this beautiful Planet Earth. But stay tuned, I'm putting together a 'kaleidoscope' of some of the sights and sounds I observed and recorded on my trip to Queensland with some music.....(still deciding what type of music ;-I )

2 - Native Paper Wasp (Ropalidia romandi) After reading the 'write up' about these Paper Wasps in my 'Wildlife of Greater Brisbane' book, I narrowed it down to just one. I'll quote you the passage I based my decision on so see what you think. 'There are several different species of paper wasps in the Greater Brisbane Region, each with a distinctive nest design. Some are made up of a single comb, others have two or more. Most have the combs clearly visible, but one covers the whole nest in a thin paper envelope'. My case rests ;-).

#1591 - Ropalidia romandi - Yellow-brown Paper Wasp
Photo by James Garner, in Brisbane.
This is one of Australia’s Polistine social wasps, but unlike our other ones this one adds an external layer of paper around the horizontal combs. Since it’s a swarm-founding species, the colonies grow rapidly and can end up over a meter long, usually on the underside of large tree branches or the eaves of houses.

Yellow-brown Paper wasps generally breed in summer, and empty cells are stocked with nectar for winter.
Their sting is very painful, but short-lived, and like most paper wasps will soon learn to recognise any humans they see in the yard, and ignore you. If you change your hair colour, or are a stranger, they may give you a warning sting to keep away.
