I actually really kind of relish the opportunity to write this documentation as a book/manual rather than in a more academic context, as it gives me the opportunity to use a more conversational tone; the thing is that for me specifically, ‘more conversational’ does not necessarily imply ‘less formal’ as much as it’s just a sort of transition from ‘scientist voice’ to ‘mad scientist voice’. Whatever part of my brain is good at writing words also has the strange tendency to write with a narrative voice best approximated by the mental image of Douglas Hofstadter snorting cocaine with Thomas Pynchon.
