THE ROOFTOP DANCE | @hokutokonishi ayehasegawa
“i have always had a passion for dance, but always have been fascinated with the art of stop-motion equally as much. why not put the two together? why not try to do it in a way i haven't seen before, in a way that i would like to see? WHY NOT TRY TO DO SOME CHOREOGRAPHY IN MID-AIR? well, here is my answer to those questions:) i hope you all enjoy.”
- Hokuto Konishi
A new project created by super talented choreographer and director Hokuto Konishi -
“I have always loved stop motion and dancing so i wanted to see if i could put the two together in my own way. i had always loved seeing people that do the “floating” effect but never had i seen anyone do any choreo while flying:) I had hesitated it to post for a couple months now since i had thought that once the idea is up it would just get taken by any other music video…but decided to put it up!! “ - Hokuto Konishi

3/3rds In a Window (2013) http://rooftopdance.squarespace.com/ilona-bito/
The working title of the duet that is expanded and rehearsed in the Roger Smith Hotel’s Introducing... Series is "Three Thirds (the strength to carry on)". Placards distinguish three sections: 1. Dance to the radio. 2. Dream Mapping 3. Make a Real Dance. Up until now both improvised and choreographed materials have been selected to describe three categories of inspiration, arranged in three parts- acting out dance experienced as interpretation, as healing/initiation, and in the form of a dream. During our twelve hour occupation of this window display, dancers Larissa and Ilona dance to the radio for hours to exhaust the terrain of interpretation, and then map and reconstruct dream dances, using props, costumes, and visual effects.
