speaking as someone who has A LOT of half posted stories up there... you don't owe it to anyone to update. whoever left that comment might have a lot of free time, but not everyone does. just because you're active in fandom doesn't mean you have the time to update fics. yes, it's nice to get updates frequently, but I know and you know that life often has other ideas. like school. and jobs. and social lives. and family. and you time. and a million other things. (con't)
i am always super impressed with the writers that update frequently and end long stories. but in the same vein, i never expect people to finish fics. like sometimes just 1000 words is like a daunting hurdle. and for something that is for fun, i'd rather not be pressured into doing it. or guilted about it. i am always so happy that people read and comment on my stories. it takes a lot of courage to post it, especially when i have a mantra of, srsly no one will like this probably - so i post fics for me. it made me happy to write it.
