Gregor watched Rex walk away from you and sighed at Rex's expression. Rex was clearly smitten and when Gregor gave him a knowing look, Rex could only respond, "I don't want to drag him into anything. We have work to do helping our brothers anyway."

Gregor sighed again, looked Rex directly in the eye and said, "You're not dragging him into anything. Maybe tell him how you feel and let him decide."

And so Rex walked back to you. It somehow took him more courage than he'd ever had to muster for him to ask you to dinner. He was thrilled when you said yes and that's how, later that night, you found yourselves sitting outside after a shared meal, watching the stars.

"I always worry when you leave," you admitted. "I worry about all of you, but," your voice barely whispered the honest truth, "I especially worry about you."

Rex turned to look at you. Your gaze cautiously met his and he reached for your hand. Feeling his hand in your own made your heart flutter and you couldn't help but smile. He traced a pattern along your hand, down each finger, and back, the firmness just enough to ground you in the moment while still being gentle.

"You are wonderful," he said, "and gorgeous, and I think I'm falling in love with you."

He paused at that intimate declaration, but when you leaned in closer and didn't pull away, he moved his other hand up your arm to your shoulder, finally resting softly on your neck and jaw. He couldn't stop looking into your perfectly beautiful eyes.

You leaned forward and kissed his lips before whispering, "I think I'm falling in love with you too. In fact, I know I am."

A broad smile spread across his face as his eyes lit up. His face brought both butterflies and comfort. "Would you like to do this again some time?"

You nodded. "Yes, I would."

Hmm I'm pretty chill on colors. But orange... sorry 😭. It's just such a tacky color. Wearing orange? Bright and funky. Buying an orange cat? Gaudy and too brilliant. Just not a fan.
