This is for @sink-into-you who asked for â..I like to think of this on Hoth. Jyn is literally in love with Leia, everyone knows(but Leia). Jyn keeps staring at her during meetings and during the meeting she just flat out tells Leia in front of everyone that she loves her..and Leia says "I love you too" âÂ
Here you go, my dear! I hope you like it :)
Jyn curled and uncurled her stiff, half-frozen fingers against her thighs, trying to both distract herself and draw her focus back to Draven. They had been in this meeting for over an hour, and all she had managed to do was stare at the princess of Alderaan. No matter how hard she tried, she couldnât seem to focus on what Draven was saying. Something about Cassianâs latest report?
 This was getting ridiculous.
So what if the harsh white light made Leiaâs eyes that much more striking, or that a single, fluttering strand of hair had escaped from her braids? Jyn was a professional. She was a rebel, and people were counting on her.
Leiaâs shoulders curled forward slightly as she pressed her hands against the table and leaned forward, easing the strain on her back, no doubt. She looked tired, dusky shadows beneath her eyes and a tightness to her bearing. For weeks, all Jyn wanted was to bring her hot tea, wrap her arms around her, and hold her until she fell asleep. But instead, sheâd settled for bringing her caf or something from the mess before she left on a mission, and always checking on her when she returned, eve before reporting to Draven.Â
Something sharp jabbed her in the ribs, and she turned sharply to scowl at Bodhi. He was grinning down at her in that soft way of his that somehow managed to be both impossibly sweet and worryingly sly. He opened his mouth, but she stepped on his foot before he could say anything.
âNot a word, Rook.âÂ
He made a sharp, muffled sound of surprise more than pain, and suddenly most of the eyes in the room were on them. Draven looked far from amused, though not at all surprised. Han winked at her, his arm around Luke. Luke seemed to be trying very, very hard not to laugh, if the way he was nearly biting through his bottom lip was any indication. Was she really that obvious? But then Leia was looking back at her, and everyone else faded away.Â
âDo you have something to share, Jyn?âÂ
Leiaâs voice was as calm and commanding as ever, but the corner of her lips twitched up, as if she wanted to smile. Jyn felt Bodhi squeeze her elbow reassuringly, but it was like it was happening to someone else. The sensation was not her own. Her world narrowed to Leia and her own pounding heart and the shallow breaths in her lungs.Â
She thought of the first moment she had seen Leia Organa. It was just after the destruction of the Death Star, and her white dress was stained and torn, her hair falling from its buns, and she had seemed so fragile â even as she celebrated with the rest of the Rebellion. There was something about her that seemed stretched to the breaking point. It was only after, when she learned her name â Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan â that she understood. But there was also a kind of burning strength to her, visible even in that moment. She burned brighter than the hottest sun, and the Emperor was a fool to ever wound her so deeply. Because Jyn knew as surely as she knew her own name that Leia would bleed the Empire for what it had done to her, to every soul in the galaxy. And Jyn knew as she knew there were stars in the sky that she would stand beside Leia until the galaxy itself burned.
Jyn was so caught up in the memory, in Leia, that the words just sort of slipped out before she realized theyâd moved from her heart to her lips.
 âI love you.âÂ
The room stilled, every voice suddenly cut off as every being stared at her. Bodhiâs grip on her elbow jerked sharply, and she suddenly came back to herself. She could feel the blood drain from her face, her eyes widening as the impact of what she had just done sank into her.
Leia seemed to be frozen, staring back at her with wide dark eyes bright with surprise. Jynâs mind raced, trying to find a way out, some means of salvaging their friendshipâŚanything. It was almost as if every other being in the room was holding their breath. Then Leia blinked, and the rigid set to her muscles faded away. If Jyn wasnât very much mistaken, she would have said there was something like relief andâŚjoy in Leiaâs eyes.
 âI love you, too.âÂ
Her lips had pulled into a small, warm smile. It was a smile that Jyn had seen her father give her mother when she was very small, when life was kinder and they were alive and together. It was the kind of smile that held more love and understanding and devotion than a hundred promises or a thousand sonnets.
Slowly, like the sun breaking over the edge of the tree line on Yavin, Jyn began to smile back. And then it was a supernova, burning and fierce and nearly incandescent. She couldnât remember the last time she had worn an expression quite like it. Maybe she never had. Maybe this was something that belonged only to Leia.Â
And then Han wolf-whistled.Â
Just like that, the room erupted with sound. Luke smacked Han on the back of the head and nearly everyone was clapping. Dravenâs eyes were suspiciously wet, even as he schooled his expression into one of annoyance. Beside her, Bodhi whooped, and then muttered something about comming Cassian the instant he was off radio silence.Â
Jyn simply looked back at Leia, who was still holding her gaze as if everyone else simply did not exist. Neither of them moved or spoke. There would be time for that later. But this moment was special, and completely theirs. If she hadnât known before, Jyn was certain then that she was lost. Her heart was, and would be until she stopped breathing, Leia Organaâs.Â

Jynâs arms are safe. Jyn is safe, and it is only in the haven of her embrace that Leia allows herself to let both Princess and Rebel General slip away. She shakes apart against the warm press of Jynâs body, and it is alright.Â
She is alright.
As long as Jyn is breathing somewhere - anywhere - in the galaxy, Leia can be as bright and burning and strong as a star. Because that is what the galaxy needs her to be, and so she will be. To Jyn, she will always be simply Leia. The woman she met after one of the worst tragedies of both their, as yet, short lives. The woman who was cold and hard and cracked so badly, a single tap would have shattered her. They found understanding in each other and, gradually, healing.
When she kissed her, it was unlike anything sheâd ever felt before. It was like falling through the vacuum of space toward a burning sun. It was like flying to her death on Scarif, heart thrumming with hope and terror and purpose. It was blaster fire and breathtaking sunrises; it was engine fuel and the tickle of recycled air in her throat.Â
Kissing Leia was the Rebellion, why she fought; why she would die. Full of passion and fire and sorrow and furious joy. Kissing her was better than a thousand victories, a hundred speeches. She was a galaxy to Jynâs simple stardust, and Jyn loved her with all the fire and devotion in her heart.
Fic prompt - Jyn hasn't eaten a proper meal at a table since her father was taken away so her sense of manners and social etiquette are severely lacking. While Leia has grown up in royalty all her life and has been taught since a young girl how to dress well and act proper around people. when the two eat together it's an awkward mix of two very different eating styles!
Ooookay. Here we go. This gave me a surprising amount of feels and inspiration. I actually had an idea for a whole other sequence, but it was already getting long. So when I put it on AO3, I may add a second part. Maybe. Damn, you give really good prompts. I hope you like this! <3 (And thank you! This really was a lot of fun to write.)********One of thethings Leia loved most about the Rebellion, was the truly expansivecross-section of beings, cultures, and backgrounds that had come together undera common cause. Every being had a story, a reason why they fought; and everysingle one was different, special. Every one meant something. But, as much asit inspired her, drove her to defend every last one of them, she could admitthat, on an interpersonal level, that beautiful diversity could cause problems. For the most part, the clashes were small. Misunderstandings were eventuallysmoothed out, and the beings involved often learned something theyâd neverconsidered before. As a fond, and sometimes nervous observer of theseinteractions, Leia was embarrassingly unprepared when she found herself in justsuch a situation. Â
Sincemeeting her in the aftermath of Scarif and the Death Starâs destruction, Leiafound herself gravitating towards Jyn Erso. It started in the simplest ways, her eyes finding her the moment she entered a room, standing next to her duringbriefings and sharing whispered comments, and just generally being aware of herpresence in an abstract way that she couldnât quite explain. She felt connectedto her in a way that sheâd never felt before; in a way that frightened her morethan Vader or the Empire ever could.
Due to thechaos recent events had thrown the Rebellion into, the first time they shared ameal was actually several weeks after theyâd met, their schedules never quitecoinciding over mealtimes. Leia had found Jyn in the mess hall, and gestured herover to her own table. She had just taken a sip of water when Jyn sank into theseat across from her and practically attacked her food. Her whole body sort ofhunched over it, one arm curling around her plate defensively, and Leia couldjust catch the glint of what she thought might be a fork clenched in her fistlike a weapon. She ate so quickly, Leia was sure she would choke, shovelingbite after bite into her mouth and barely chewing. It was a little disgusting,if she was honest, but she was too shocked to care. Jyn was finished in barelya minute, and only then did she relax and straighten up, smiling at Leia. Thesmile fell almost immediately, and Leia knew the look on her face wasnâtanything good. She hadnât moved, either, in the short time it had taken Jyn toinhale her food. She was staring at her, frozen, her cup still halfway to herlips. Jyn scowled.
"What?âLeia set hercup down with perhaps too much force, the water inside sloshing against thesides.
âI ânothing, itâs just-â she stumbled over herself, trying to salvage some shred ofcomposure. Her reaction had been horribly rude. Jyn didnât give her time torecover herself. She stood up so abruptly, her chair squealed awfully againstthe floor.
âExcuse me,Your Highness, if I upset your royal appetite,â she snarled. She waspractically bristling like an enraged cat, but Leia could see the hurt and shameunderneath it. Immediately, she knew she had made a terrible mistake. She feltsick, a pit opening inside her stomach. She stood, too, and reached for Jyn.
âJyn, wait-âbut Jyn had spun on her heel and marched out of the mess hall, not sparing asingle glance back. Â Leia didnâteven wait five minutes before practically bolting to find Cassian, her own mealforgotten on their abandoned table.
But what Cassian told her only made herfeel more disgusted with herself than before. She should have seen it! Jyn hadnâthad a proper home or family since she was nine years old. After that, sheâdgrown up with Sawâs rebels until they abandoned her. Then, things had onlygotten worse. Cassian had extracted her from an Imperial prison, after all. Everythingmade sense. Not just the lack of table manners, but the aggressive, defensiveway she held herself while she was eating. Even the improvised weapon. She hadeaten like it was going to be taken away because, for most of her life, thatwas true. Leia had always prided herself on not allowing her royal upbringingto hinder her relationships with people. But she had just done exactly that.Â
After their disastrousdinner together, there were no more casual brushes of shoulders or whisperedwords or even nods from across the room. Jyn treated Leia with cold animosity, when she acknowledged her at all. Â Theloss left Leia strangely bereft. She was used to pushing people away, it washer natural defense mechanism; but to be on the other side of it was awful. Andit, all of it, had been her fault. So, she decided firmly, it was up to her tomend it.
Afterseveral days of being unable to catch Jyn in the mess hall â Leia was sure Jynwas intentionally avoiding her now â Leia knew it was time for grand gestures. Shewent to the mess hall, carefully filling two plates with food that was easilychewed and would be difficult to choke on. When she reached for utensils, herhand hovered uncertainly for only a moment before she snatched up an extrafork. Then, balancing a tray crammed with two plates, two cups, and a fewassorted extra dishes, she marched halfway across the base to Jynâs quarters.
When shearrived, she was careful to mimic the soft knock she had seen Bodhi use; knowingthat if she rapped on the door with her usual abrupt efficiency, Jyn would knowit was her and probably refuse to answer the door. Sure enough, hardly a fewseconds had passed before the door slid open.
âHey, Bodhi,what-â Jynâs voice broke off abruptly when her eyes landed on Leia. Her facehardened, and Leia could practically see her walls shoot up. Leia promptlystuck her foot in front of the door sensor to keep it from closing.
âWait! Jyn,please listen to me.â Jyn crossed her arms over her chest and raised hereyebrows in a âgo on thenâ kind of way. Leia took a deep breath. Apologies werenot something she was good at.
âThe way Ireacted when we ate together was unacceptable. I apologize, Jyn, for evermaking you feel inferior orâŚwhatever it is my behavior made you feel. That wasnot my intention at all. JynâŚIâm sorry.â Jyn was still regarding her coolly, but the tense rigidity of her stance had ebbed away at Leiaâs words.Â
âNot all ofus were raised as royalty, Princess.â Her words were not biting this time, onlya statement with the barest hint of resentment. That, Leia could work with. Sheforged ahead, her heart racing with nerves and anticipation.Â
What in thegalaxy was it about Jyn Erso that made this so important?
âI knowthat. And I know that table manners and etiquette were next to useless to youwhen you were growing up. Survival was what mattered.â Jyn nodded, a sharp jerkof her head. Her childhood was not something she talked of often, Leia knew. She raised the tray in front of her like an offering.
âI broughtdinner.â Jyn regarded her, an odd expression on her face.
âThatâsenough for two people.â
âVeryobservant, Sargent Erso.â
âAre weâŚeatingtogether?â Leia just knew Jyn was thinking of the almost green look on her facethe last time theyâd shared a meal.
âYes. Weare,â she answered firmly.
âAlrightthen.â Jyn ushered her inside and over to her bunk. Leia set the tray down andthey arranged themselves on the mattress, the tray between them. Silently, Leiadivided the food and utensils between them and hastily took a bite. She felt itwas important for her to start eating first. It was almost absurd the amount ofthought sheâd put into this. Jyn frowned at the two forks beside her plate.
âWhy do Ihave a second fork?â Leia just shrugged at her, pretending to be busy chewing.A soft, surprised smile pulled at the corners of Jynâs lips. Her left armcurled around her plate, the extra fork held loosely in her hand. But themuscles in her arm were relaxed. Leia felt warm all over.
Jyn ate justas quickly and sloppily as she had that first time but, this time, Leia didnâtbat a single royal eyelash. When she was done, Jyn talked to her while Leiafinished her own food. Just like that, it was like nothing had happened betweenthem. Jyn was free with her smiles and that loud, bubbling laugh that Leiafound herself craving.
After that, sharing meals in Jynâs room became a habit of theirs. And slowly, with gruffshyness at first, Jyn began to ask Leia questions.
What was the proper way tohold a fork?Â
Why was it considered rude to lean over your plate?Â
Why in allseven hells were there more than one kind of spoon?
They atetogether in the mess hall as well, usually with the other members of Rogue Oneor Han and Luke and Chewie. Jynâs manners improved gradually, although she wasstill taut as a drawn cable until her food was gone. Once, Han â being, well,Han â had leaned over and snatched something off her plate. Leia was the onlyone not surprised in the least when he received a fork through his hand. She hadeven snorted into her cup at the expression on his face. The poor man (heâddeserved it, though) seemed more shocked than anything else. Though, he wasclearly in a considerable amount of pain. What wasnât amusing at all was howwhite Jyn had gone, eyes wide and glazed. Sheâd shoved her chair back and leftbefore anyone could stop her. No one saw her again for hours.
Leia spentnearly an hour after her shift was over searching the base for her. By the timeshe dragged herself back to her own quarters, she was exhausted and worriedhalf out of her mind about Jyn. The look on her faceâŚ.Leia couldnât shake theimage. Han wasnât upset, not at all. If anyone could understand, it was him.But Jyn would never know that if no one could find her.Â
Wearily,Leia swiped her hand over the sensor to activate the door and nearly collapsed insurprise. Jyn was sitting on Leiaâs bunk, her knees pulled against her chest, staring at the wall. Slowly, she turned her head to Leia. Her eyes were dry, notrace of the tears Leia had halfway expected. But the blankness in them wasalmost worse. But her eyes werenât quite blank, Leia realized as she crossedthe small space between them to ease onto the bed beside Jyn. They were lost.Like she was adrift in space without another soul for lightyears. Then sheleaned her head against Leiaâs shoulder, her body sort of folding against Leiaâs.
âHowâs hishand?â the question was soft, barely above a whisper.
âHis hand isfine, Jyn. You know, Iâve wanted to stab him myself three times in the lastweek alone.â Jyn laughed, surprised and quick, but a laugh all the same. Leiasmiled at the wall and rested her cheek against Jynâs hair. There was a certainscent that always clung to Jyn, in her hair, on her clothes; and Leia couldnever quite pin down what it was. It reminded her of space and the thrum of danger,of starships and the first embers of hope just on the edge of becoming flames. It reminded her of joy and warmth and loss. It reminded her of Alderaan.
âBet he wonâtever try to steal from me again,â Jyn remarked. The lost blankness was fadingaway, almost like it had never been there, and there was a wicked smirk curlingthe edges of her mouth. Leia grinned.
âLike he hasthat much sense.â Jyn snorted and nestled just a little closer into Leiaâsside.Â
Leia found herself watching Jyn. It was already an ingrained habit before she even noticed it was happening. Her eyes would follow her through the mess hall, find her across the holo table in Command, track her across the hangar until she was lost inside Rogue One. She couldnât explain it. She could not explain why her eyes found her before her mind even knew she was there, why the tension and raw nerves inside her would ease the moment she sensed Jynâs presence, how a single glance could ground her; stop her spiral into hopeless grief. Jyn was her sanity, and it made no sense.
There was something about her. The proud lift of her chin, the steady set of her shoulders, the ferocity and strength that seemed as natural to her as breathing. She was a ferocious, kind, brave storm of a woman, and Leia was lost the moment they met.
It had been in Medical, in the aftermath of the Death Starâs destruction. Leia had not slept in days, going from a mad, desperate flight from Vader to imprisonment and torture; miraculous escape to waiting for death to claim them all. She doubted she would ever have a peaceful nightâs rest again. There were too many horrors in her head, too many ghosts. When she was informed that the crew of Rogue One had lived, she willed herself to stay on her feet and nearly ran to Medical. The survivors- heroes, her mind sang-were the reason they had even had a chance against something as terrible and unimaginable as the Death Star. The price that crew of six had paid had been dear. But still less than they had expected. None of them had thought to see another cycle.
She would always remember the exact instant she saw Jyn Erso for the first time. The Rogue crew had been given a private room, crowded with five beds. Jyn was the only one of them awake when Leia entered, still in her stained white dress, hair disheveled and escaping from its buns. Leia had stopped just inside the door, her breath coming in quiet gasps, suddenly ashamed of her dash through the base. But something in her had needed to see these people. Maybe the only ones alive who could understand, truly grasp what had happened. What Leia had lost and suffered. What these five had lost and suffered. Jynâs sharp, wary gaze pinned her instantly, and she felt like she was staring into a nebula. There was so much behind this womanâs eyes, shining wide and green out of her bruised, cut face. In that moment, she seemed to Leia ancient and strong, but also incredibly young and small. And in that moment, barely the space of a heartbeat or a breath, something in Leiaâs soul connected with hers. It was inexplicable and beyond anything Leia had ever felt for another being before. As if in the instant their gazes met, they were linked beyond distance, beyond, space, beyond war. Leia swore she had stopped breathing.
âYou sent the message,â Leia said softly, a little breathless.
âYou transmitted the plans.â Jyn watched her, and something in her expression shifted, the wariness giving way to stunned awe.
âAnd you received it. Princess Organa.â
âLeia. Call me Leia. None of you need use my title.â It seemed wrong for these people to address her with such formality. With them, to them, she would only be Leia. Jyn nodded, her eyes moving over Leia.
âWe were told you were captured. They told us you were likely dead.â Leia felt weightless, unmoored, a dead ship drifting in space. The room began to fade.
âTheyâŚthey wanted the plans. The location of this base.â She heard a rustling, like fabric moving against fabric. And then Jynâs voice was much closer, her hand warm and calloused on Leiaâs.
âYou didnât give it to them.â Leia was arrested by Jynâs fierce gaze and the surety and firmness of it.
âMy planet died,â she whispered, barely audible.
âMy people.â Jynâs hold on her tightened and she took a step back toward the beds and the people in them, tugging Leiaâs arm with her.
