So it looks like they are blending the Fae stuff into the Norse world by tying Malekith here to Odin and Hela

This entire Dark Elf arc has had a weird sadomasochistic mind control kink vibe to it (...all of which one should expect with Dark Elves I suppose), but with this panel Malekith just went full Cenobite.

For the last couple of books, the Enchantress’ little sister Lorelei has been pretending to be a lady named Melodi and attempting to get Thor to drink an enchanted golden mead that will work as a kind of love potion on him. She finally succeeds only for us to discover that Malekith has kidnapped the real Lorelei and is using her and Thor’s newfound infatuation with her to get the god to go after the Casket of Ancient Winters for him. 

The Casket has been cracked, and the Fimbulwinter is upon us.

The enchantment of the Casket had been direct towards Odin to keep his powers at bay, but when Roger re-assembles the whole thing and snaps the box closed, the winter powers are trapped inside once again, and Odin is returned to his full fighting force. 

The older gentleman in this book is Roger Willis, who is the son of the last Casket keeper. He really doesn’t exist after this arc, but during it, he is very important. Anyway, here we see him watering down the mead Lorelei is using to ensnare Thor’s mind in an attempt to help lessen her control over him.

Thor & Roger Willis (father of Verity Willis) battle the demon hounds of Malekith the Accursed. Simonson’s run marks the first appearance of Malekith (#344).

(I also wonder if any of these characters are aware of exactly how much Verity’s life and family have been intertwined with Loki, Thor, and Asgard... Doesn’t it seem like a bit more than just a convenient backstory and previous canon Easter egg?)
