he always talks when she is around  .  about nothing ( everything ) , the meals he’s eaten , the people in the village who cower , the beauty of the polar bear , and the idea that she ought to just submit  .

it is as he always speaks , she always has one response for him ( one comment ) snapped at him , yelled at him , a boot slammed in his face .

   “ SHUT UP ! “

she hates him , and he cannot fault her . but likewise , could she not fault him for his desire , to card claws through silken fur and soft hair , to rip ears from her head and pluck fangs like jewels to keep . to file down nails so as she kicked and screamed and scratched , there would be nothing left  . 

nothing but a bloody mess on the snow , painted his favorite color  .                       (  a husk of what she used to be  )

you  hate  this   \   this  cold   (   it’s  freezing   \   you  could  feel  your  skin  freezing   \   is  this  how  you   die   ?   forgetting  your  cloak  like  the  idiot  that  you  are   ?   ).   how  amusing   \   the  arctic  wolf  that  died  in  the  freezing  cold   (   how  pathetic   ).   so  it  comes  to  you  by  surprise   \   a  warmth  that  surrounds  you   (   was  it  hell’s  fire   ?   was  it  reaching  to  you   ?   to  thaw  you  out  of  a  frozen  heaven   ?   ).   it’s  gentle   \   the  soft  white  scarf  surrounds  you   (   it’s  warm   \   it  could  melt  your  ice  heart  to  be  reduced  to  just  a  puddle   ).   yet  you’re  still  shaking   \   one  would  assume  due  to  the  cold   (   yet  you  know  the  truth   \   you’re  scared   \   where  did  this  scarf  even  come  from   ?   ).

then  you  hear  her  words   \   it’s  soft   (   it’s  quiet   \   how  odd   \   it  makes  you  even  more  terrified   ).   you  knew  it   \   this  warmth   (   at  first   \   comforting   \   yet   \   it  was  too  good  to  be  true   ).   your  instincts   \   act  quicker  than  your  brain  could  let  you  think.    your  first  thought  that  bubbles   \   she  came  here  just  to  demean  you  again   (   to  remind  you  of  how  pathetic  you  are   ).   yet  you  stayed  silent   \   thinking   \   thinking   \   more  thinking   (   remember  what  yukisada  said  before   \   they’re  just…   trying  to  help   \   yeah   \   in  their  own  rude  way   \   you  think   ).   you’re  too  terrified  to  look  them  in  the  eyes   \   you’re  too  scared  to  begin  speaking   (   a  war  rages  inside  one’s  mind   \   a  battle  fighting  pointlessly   \   between  yourself   &   your  own  mind   \   it’s  going  to  tear  you  in  half   ).

it’s  soft   \   your  voice   (   quiet  \   barely  above  a  whisper   \   you  don’t  dare  to  look  rocma  in  the  eyes   \   it’s  easier  to  speak  if  you  don’t   ).   stumbling  over  your  own  words   \   some  fall  to  the  floor   ,   but  finally  you  manage  a  simple   ❝    thank  you…    ❞
