Nightwing arrives at her apartment a little after midnight, wearing a sleepy smile and accepting her apology kiss with no argument. "I'm so sorry about this," Raquel says, like she had over the phone. "But he loves you and I'm so tired--"
"Don't even worry about it," Dick cuts her off, his tone soft. "I love the little guy. Where is he anyway?"
"He's been like this all night," Raquel explains, rubbing her eyes while Dick instantly scoops up little Amistad. "I've tried everything, absolutely everything..."
"Except me."
She smiles and laughs. "Except you," she agrees. Dick presses a kiss to her cheek and focuses his attention on Amistad. His little cheeks are rosy red from crying, but his screams have dribbled to short hiccups and the more Dick rocks him, the calmer he gets.
"You'd better not be drugging my baby," she warns. It's only been fifteen minutes and already Amistad's eyes are fluttering close.
"Not enough to hurt him." She rolls her eyes and punches his shoulder, drawing a small chuckle out of him. "Would you look at that. He's already asleep."
"What do you have that I don't?" Raquel crosses her arms as she looks on from her spot on the bed.
"I could name a lot of things," Nightwing smirks, as she glares, "Don't even start."
He's still cradling Amistad as he eases into the bed beside her. Gently, he places Amistad between them. There's a flurry of muffled movement--a few knees and elbows bumping--and after it dies down, Raquel's legs fit perfectly into Dick's, and their hands are entwined in a leisurely fashion. Raquel smiles--her eyes are drifting shut while she mutters her thanks.
"Not even a problem. You both mean a lot to me."
She kisses her son first, then him, all lips and sweet, sweet emotion before allowing herself to succumb to exhaustion. Nightwing looks on and sighs. It's late and he's in bed with a baby and his girlfriend, and yeah, that's not exactly an ideal scenario, but it feels right at that moment, so he gives her hand a squeeze and drifts off as well.
It's the first time in months that Amistad has slept soundly throughout the whole night.
