Jordan and Caeden met up after school the next day. Jordan had Robyn in tow, stuffed in her backpack, while Caeden was pretty much ignoring the rabbit and chattering on excitedly about how Lynda came to life and he thought that was cool.
âWait, what? Lynda Lynx came to life? You canât mean the spirit insideâs all alive right now, right?â Jordan might have been more ready to believe this if it werenât so preposterous. She could see the dead, and there were many supernatural things they still didnât understand, however... this was beyond any of that. The dead do not return to living like those who remain on this earth.
âYeah, thatâs exactly what happened. Itâs all a big mystery! Dadâs boss has no idea what happened, and dad doesnât know, and dad said your dad doesnât know. Nobody knows!â Caeden laughed, not quite grasping how serious of a situation this was. They might have enough room to explain away the dead native, but those children died too recently compared to her. If any of them came back, who knows what sort of hell could be unleashed?
âWell. Caeden. I think we need to talk some about this. Supernatural stuff is really really serious, okay? If thereâs something out there that can bring our ghost friends back to life on a whim, donât you think everyone is in danger?â Jordan grabbed Robyn out of her pack and hugged him close as they continued walking. Robyn had absolutely no idea how to join in on the conversation, so for the moment he was content to observe.
âBut why bring Lynda back to life? She doesnât fight, does she?â
âNo, she sees though. She could predict their movements and give everyone else an advantage.â
âBut what about Goldie? Wouldnât it be better to bring him back to life? You said he was really strong! Like, the strongest.â
âI donât know. Iâm not the thing thatâs doing this, but there must be a reason they didnât choose Goldie. At least not yet.â
Robyn tried not to shudder as this conversation progressed. It was getting into uncomfortable territory, and he really didnât need to be questioned on this.
âWhoa, did your rabbit toy move? Where did you even get that thing?â Caeden poked one of Robynâs plush cheeks, prompting a recoiling reaction from the toy. âWhoa!!â
âDonât! Donât do that.â Robyn grumbled.
âUm. Yeah. His name is Robyn, and heâs haunted too. I found him with Lynda a few days ago, when I was staying overnight with my dad at his work. He was really hard to clean up-â
   âIâm right here, Jordan.â
â-But I think he looks nice now. Anyway, um, thereâs your house Caeden. Iâd better be getting home, too.â
Reluctantly, Caeden agreed. This was where they usually had to split up anyway, otherwise Caeden would have to backtrack to get home. Once the other child got through the door, he stopped thinking about the supernatural junk that just got explained to him. He had simply decided that he wasnât going to worry about it. Foolproof plan, right? Right. What could possibly go wrong?
