yes okay yes, basically let me preface this by saying i have been developing this au for years but only have one chapter of it written b/c i am a failure at finishing things. so:

EASTERN AMESTRIS ACADEMY

i won’t get into backstory rn b/c it's long, but basically ed is part of a leadership program and b/c of this ends up having to be roommates with new student ling, much to his dismay

ed and ling get into a lot of dumb situations

ling is fluent in amestrian but pretends he barely understands the language around teachers and most other students which pisses ed off to no end, mostly because ling gets away with writing essays that are like half a page long and gets an A for “making a good effort”

ed finds out that hanging out with ling usually means hanging out with lan fan, b/c apparently they are a package deal

lan fan and ed don’t get along at first and they get into a fist fight in the cafeteria and then meet greed in detention. greed tries to flirt with her but she refuses to associate with him and that is the end of greed until later on

their lunch group consists of ed, al, winry, paninya, ling, lan fan, and sometimes rose

anyway ed and ling are in mustang’s poli-sci class (ed needed a history credit and signed up b/c he saw the word science...bad move) and ed fights with mustang all the time over inane crap, whereas ling fights with mustang over actual politics and philosophy of leadership, and sometimes things go to far and this lands them in DETENTION

lo and behold, who should be in detention again but greed. despite being like 22 he is still a senior in high school...probably should have been expelled by now but apparently he has connections of some sort so he’s untouchable

anyway greed is a bad influence as you can imagine and somehow they end up having to do a project together and greed’s just like “hey i have a job, so why don’t you guys come to my work and we can do the project there”

his work tends out to be a bar...when they get there greed’s in the back so martel comes to get their order and ling orders wine or something and she gives it to him and then turns to ed and is like “what do you want kid, an orange soda?”

ed is pissed off, and ling laughs into his glass of wine that he should not be having b/c he is underage, but apparently laws are different in xing or so he claims

and thus an unlikely friendship is formed with greed

come wintertime ling decides to try out for the basketball team despite never having played basketball before, ed jokes that maybe he’ll try out too and ling is “i thought basketball players were supposed to be tall” OH SNAP so anyway ed tries out to spite ling and they both end up making the team and ling becomes the star of the team??? how did that happen

eventually mei shows up and causes family drama

ed neglects his health so he can study more and winry is understandably upset with him

bradley is the evil superintendent who terrorizes the school

grumman is the dean and the rest of the faculty is everyone who’s in the military in fma

at the end of the year ling runs for student council president, much to ed’s dismay

cards against humanity !
