TWO OUT OF FIVE MAIN CHARACTER DESIGNS DONE

Well... partially. More like concept art.

I did a post about this world I'm creating last year, but here's some refreshers.

In short, a bio-weapon in the form of a virus was developed in order to wipe out plant life in large quantities, causing famine wherever it is released. It is discovered to be highly effective...

In humans D:

The virus escaped in April 2028, but the current storyline is set in October 2031.

Skin and bones turn to sheets of metal and cogs that limit movement in the process called 'reforming', or sometimes just 'turning'. You get knocked out for anywhere between few hours to a month and wake up with no memories of your personal life. You don't know your name, your age, who your family were and so on so forth. Most people have strangely just kinda accepted it at this point; there's no going back. There are definitely some groups who believe the opposite though.

Despite forgetting all personal information about themselves in the transformation, some info can be recovered. Those turned in their homes often have enough evidence around (eg, calanders with birthdays marked, photographs, height charts with names) that they can take a pretty good guess at who they were. Even luckier were those who could locate their drivers license.

If you were unfortunate enough to be reformed in an abandoned alleyway with none of your stuff... time to pick a new name.

Personalities are not usually altered in the change, and people can often sense when they are near someone they were once close to.

There are still humans around, but you won't see many. They're inevitably all gonna get turned in the near future.

Some people got more lucky than others in the transformation (aka, they got to keep all four limbs).

More recently turned bots are generally viewed as younger, no matter their age. There'll have some sort of marking or something that I'll figure out in the future. Gangs are always trying to snatch up the new ones.

The only real ways to die once you're turned is either rusting or getting your power source messed up (often happens due to violence).

Animals survived the apocalypse (as in, they cannot get turned; a bunch have still gone extinct due to recent 'human' activity). Many activist groups believe that animal biology is the way out.

Those with the 'worst' survival skills ironically are now the most experienced with their new (albeit forced) way of life.

As you can imagine, agriculture has certainly gone to hell from a lack of caretakers. So I suppose the virus developers got their wish.

Face the World With a Mask

We mask ourselves to move through the world, layering roles and disguises until the weight of performance leaves us drained. In this portrait, the mask is not a simple cover but an entire world, a landscape of machines, stories, and fragments of what we carry within.
