Biker Mice From Mars (Volume 2) #4
RoboForce: The Animated Series review
RoboForce: The Animated Series is a animated series that deals with a bunch of heroic robots being rendered obsolete. It is frankly quite sobering how heavy it gets in regards to that, with one even essentially asking for suicide. Luckily the robots that replaced them malfunction so they can be heroes again.
The animation is alright. It is a bit flat, but relatively fluid.
A strong recommendation.
I've recently watched Roboforce today, and that was actually a great show. It's free on Tubi to anyone who lives in the US.
This robot named Maxx 89 is my favorite character from that show. I think he's quite silly and has such an adorable design.

Despite the incredibly muted reaction to Roboforce it looks like the Nacelleverse will press forward with the Biker Mice from Mars, apparently showing off what they are planning at Season 2 of the Nacelleverse at Motor City Comic Con.
You immediately see that, for brand synergy purposes, they are trying to have a uniform art style for all the Nacelleverse entries. This makes perfect sense if the idea is to present a uniform front for selling merchandise and making the viewers think everything shares the same universe.
From an artistic standpoint, though? It's not a great look. The Nacelleverse has laid claim to a visual style that is distinctly theirs, not trying to imitate anime or use the over-simplified art that tends to be popular with a lot of shows these days, but visually it is drab. While the opening of the new Biker Mice isn't available yet, we do have the opening of Roboforce to show what humanoids will look like in the show. Like I did in an earlier post, I think an interesting comparison from a timeframe perspective for visuals is Yaiba: The Samurai Legend, a show made around the same time as the original Biker Mice. The idea is NOT to compare the two directly (since it would be an apples and oranges comparison), but to chronicle the evolution of animation in two productions with roughly the same character designs.
Here's the opening to Yaiba:
And here's the opening to the original Biker Mice from Mars:
Both are doing things you expect from shows around the time. Direct comparisons in animation quality aside, both immediately bring you back to a certain timeframe, watching TV on the couch, and would fit right in with similar shows of the time period like Street Sharks.
And there's the 2006 opening. Basically, the early days of digital coloring, and something you can tell followed the 2003 Ninja Turtles reboot, at least visually.
Now, let's fast forward to 2025 and see what the remake of Yaiba looks like visually.
It's a massive step up in quality from the original (not hurt by the fact that the show is apparently a passion project for the creator of Detective Conan, being an adaptation of the manga he did before Conan).
And here's the opening for Roboforce, which is what Biker Mice will also look like.
It almost feels like a downgrade from the 93 and 2006 approaches. The coloring is more advanced, but the animations look flat and stiff, not even having the appeal of the older hand-drawn material.
Basically, in trying to present a uniform product, Nacelle has created a big barrier to entry with the visuals on top of all their other missteps. It's not insurmountable, but it is going to make people second-guess whether to watch the show if they can find it.
Another NOTHER update on that roboforce hyperfixation
