Everything you lose is a step you take

I know its beating a dead horse or whatever especially now but i just cannot understand (well i can, dr who fans are predictable) people who say the most recent dr who was a terrible, unsalvagable mess like there were loads of really good, bold experimental episodes. Yes it was messy, and i get the sense it was buffeted by disney/bbc behind the scenes drama that we may never know about but like...it was so watchable in a way dr who hadnt been for years like it was relevant and i was talking about it with my boss at work. It pushed what dr who could be further and was actually enjoyable to watch! I get the sense that rtd viewed it as a cultural insitution that expanded beyond the show, a training ground for new creatives in tv, a way to promote wales as a tv production powerhouse, an avenue to tell new and interesting stories.
