A sentence that always makes me sad is:
"I understand you have trauma, but that doesn't mean you can write [taboo topic]."
Yes, you absolutely can write a taboo topic. In fact, a lot of therapists suggest using fiction to cope with trauma and many encourage writing/reading dark things if it makes you feel better because its fictional
It makes me sad that so many trauma survivors who've already lost their personal autonomy are being told they're not allowed to have it again in a completely safe way
Prioritizing the "safety" of fictional characters and intolerance of discomfort over the feelings and coping skills of people with trauma will never not disappoint me, and remind me that not everyone truly cares about trauma victims when the conversation gets uncomfortable
