I still haven’t finished this season of Squid Game, but let me tell you how disturbing and upsetting it is to sit through those voting scenes. Because all I can think of is the election (not just for the presidential candidate, but for certain amendments as well in-state) and how miserable and terrifying it feels to be on the side where you want to get out. You just want to survive and make that choice for yourself, but you’re stuck with a group of people who don’t care about you and who are willing to put themselves and YOU at risk for something that 90% of them won’t ever get to see or experience.
In the show, the first vote was so close. The second vote was further away even after so many people had already died.
It reminds me of the way that many people who voted for Trump (whether they fully agree with everything he says or not) says that they did it for a better economy. Lower costs. Lower housing prices. At the risk of everyone else and even themselves.
I know it isn’t 1-1 with the show and what I’m talking abt with the elections, but it hit so very close to home and I genuinely felt such dread during each vote bc I know that no matter how badly half of them wanna stop the games and go home, they keep getting outweighed by everyone else.
