[Zandvoort 2016 Race 2]
Robert Wickens will be back behind the wheel this weekend to compete in IMSA's Grand Prix of Long Beach. Just 7 years after an accident at IndyCar's 2018 visit to Pocono that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
In 2022, Wickens returned to racing in IMSA's Michelin Pilot Challenge, a support series to IMSA's Weatertech Championship. The following year he won the title in the TCR Class. This weekend will be the first time he returns to IMSA's top series since competing in the 2017 Rolex 24 in the Protoype Challenge Class.
He will be driving the DXDT Racing #36 Corvette together with Tommy Milner in the GTD class. The car is equipped with a hand-controlled throttle and braking system developed by Bosch and Pratt Miller.
Below, a video where Robert himself explains how the controls in his car work.
This system isn't tied to the Corvette, which means that it could be converted to any other race car and potentially even to road cars in the future.
His next goal will be to compete in the IMSA WeaterTech series full-time in 2026, for now he will compete in all sprint events this season.

Reminder that James Hinchcliffe and Robbie Wickens have been friends for nearly forever and James' friends adopted Robbie a long time ago.
Bonus fact: Robbie and Marco share a bday - March 13
I also share their bday
From a 2018 Indycar Facebook livestream:
Robert: I am temporarily living at Casa de Hinch. Josef: Are you really? So, you're back in the-- James: I'm back in the landlord business. Josef: Oh my gosh. [...] How about Conor, though. Conor's got his new place. James: Conor actually got-- [Looks at camera and starts applauding.] Ladies and gentlemen, Indycar fans. Let's all give a round of applause to our man Conor Daly for acquiring his first domicile. Josef: It's a big deal. I was actually shocked that he did it. Robert: I'm awaiting the house party. Josef: Yeah, that's a good point. Well, he just got the furniture [...]-- Robert: I told him he has to have a banger before he gets furniture and then you-- Josef: That's true. That's true. And then you can clean it up easier. He didn't think that through. It's very un-Conor. Conor would have done something like that. [Turns to camera.] Conor, what happened there? You need to tell everyone what's going on.
