"Oh- Mighty nice of you!" Newcomen hovered around the cake to ensure it hadn't been tampered with. It wasn't as if he mistrusted the gift, but was rather careful on his end.
"Thank you very much! I don't think I can eat this right now- an inspector can never be off-duty! Not even on his own birthday! But I promise to enjoy it when I get home! You as well have a good day, stay safe and out of trouble! Would hate to put you in chains otherwise- well, I don't doubt that you're a good fellow. Especially after this!"

Here's finally! Enfield x Newcomen art!!! God i love them! I at first wanted to make it an entire new version of the illustration "the fall" with them but then decided to make the expressions and background more of mine own!
(my version of Newcomen has a bit white hair since i feel like he would be extremely stressed in his job at least my version. I mean it's 1886 and his being gay, a transman and London to that period was basically Gotham City but in England.)

Robert gave a jovial smile while opening the box. Normally he would be a bit prickly about the absence of "inspector" behind his last name. But a bribe's a bribe, as indirect as it is.
As soon as the name "Kate" was brought up, Robert flushed a furious red.
"Don't! Don't mention her- urgh was this just a bribe to get me to talk about her? Well that won't work!"
