Wessex Dance Academy’s current cohort will perform Rewritten Pages on Tuesday 12 February 2013, 7pm, at The Lights in Andover.
Rewritten Pages, choreographed by Siobhan Maguire-Swartz and Robert Guy, was created to show the raw energy, physicality and talent of young people new to contemporary dance. It charts their journey into adulthood, the different paths and choices they can take and the pressures they face. This is their first performance together after only three weeks of dance training.
Robert Guy is currently Head Aerialist for Wired Aerial Theatre and has been choreographing and performing with them for the past 5 years. He has also performed works by Fillip Van Huffel, Henri Ougike and Stephen Petronio. Robert teaches and choreographs both nationally and internationally, with one of his most recent works for Dance United, Unwritten Pages, winning him the Koestler Platinum Award for Choreography.
Siobhan Maguire-Swartz is Academy Director for Dance United’s London Academy. She won alongside Robert Guy the Koestler Platinum Award for Choreography for Unwritten Pages. More recently, her work The Performance, choreographed with John Ross, received acclaim across London and featured in the Festival of the World, Celebrate the City Festival and the Olympic Torch Relay during the summer of 2012.
Rewritten Pages Tuesday 12th February, 7pm The Lights West Street, Andover Hampshire SP10 1AH

Wessex Dance Academy's taster days for its new cohort start today. Best of luck to all the Academy's team and young people as they embark on 11 weeks of intensive contemporary dance training. The first piece the young people will be learning is Rewritten Pages, by Siobhan Maguire-Swartz and Robert Guy, recently taught and performed at the London Academy. Images from this gallery were taken by Pari Naderi at the London Academy's graduation performance in December 2012.

London Academy Graduation Performance at Bernie Grant Arts Centre
Participants from the London Academy graduated on Wednesday 4th April with an evening of performances. An enthusiastic audience of over 200 people were overwhelmed by what they saw:
“Really great. I thought it was even better than watching professional dancers because the movements are human and full of the story of getting to this point.”
“Dynamic and inspiring. I’m impressed by the risks the young people have taken in performing this evening, their courage is inspiring. Wonderful to see the poise and dignity with which they walked off stage, and great to be able to celebrate their achievements and witness them receive their certificates.”
“Wonderful! Amazing example of how young people disenfranchised by lack of positive stimulus and unemployment / lack of opportunity can rise to the occasion and prove themselves.”
“Beautiful, motivating, inspiring. Made me feel like dancing.”
“Amazing work!! Amazed by detailed hands movement which express so many emotions. Wonderful choice of music as well!! Difficult to believe that you can achieve so much in such a short period of time. Sign of hard and intense work.”
The London Academy graduates were joined by a vibrant performance of Today is the day, is the day, is the day...by the London Performance Company. This piece choreographed by Robert Guy, was originally created for ReFresh 2012, a project produced by Sadler's Wells and The Place.
