Brian: Hey, Sully.

Sully: Hey, kids.

Matthew: You gonna be around tha next coupla days?

Sully: I should be why?

Brian: Cause it’s Ma’s  birthday. Oops don’t tell nobody. It’s a secret.

Matthew: We’re tryna think of a good present for her.

Brian: So... Why don’t you marry our Ma and be our Pa?

Sully: Brian it’s... not something you just do. It takes time.

Brian: She’s 35. She doesn’t have alot of time left.

Colleen: Brian.

Matthew: Uh, it’s just that her Ma sent her some stuff from her hope chest. 

Sully: Hope chest?

Matthew: Yeah. You know we started to think...

Colleen: Wouldn’t it be nice if she had somebody to share it with. Uh, besides us. So we’re giving her a surprised party.

Brian: You can dance with Ma.

Me: He don’t dance.

Sully: Well, I was planning on going out  and checking my traps this week. But I’ll try to make it.

Brian: Promise?

Sully: I can’t promise Brian. I can’t.

Brian: Don’t you want to be our Pa?

Sully: Brian, You already got a pa.

Me: No he don’t

Sully: What I am is your friend. Don’t you forget that now. Thanks, Robert E.

Matthew: Why’d you have to go scare him like that, Brian?

Brian: I didn’t scare him. Sully’s not afraid of me. Is he Robert E.?

Robert E (speaking for the first time during this scene): No, uh... you’re not what he’s scared of, Brian. I, uh, believe when a man lives a certain way, like Sully, all by himself, it’s hard for him to come back to something else. Someone else.

Brian: Oh.
