The Admiral: Roaring Currents
The Admiral: RoaringĀ Currents
I really, really, really ā¦
Really wanted to like this movie. Itās Yi Sun-Sin (pronounced Ee Soon-Sheen), my favourite Korean historical personage. He was absolutely amazing ā the one bright point in an otherwise disastrous period (the Imjin War when Japan invaded and occupied parts of Korea near the end of the 16th century). Iāve read his diary of the period, and it makes him out to be the kindā¦

Review of āThe Admiral: Roaring Currentsā
2/5- Just say no.
I was truly disappointed with the movie. And the reason is the same as why āRise of an Empireā was so inferior to its original; it just lacked any human element.
As Iāve written before, the greatest attribute to Admiral Yi is that he chose to honor the throne despite being betrayed, tortured and demoted by his liege. When the the court ran away to the arms of Ming China, he stood between the Japanese and his people. When armies scattered to the wind, the civilians rallied around him to fend off legions of samurai.
All this is lost in the feature for some random spy and his mute wife. This was okay for the trailer but holy crap does it fall short. All we learn of Yiās exemplary character is from the 10 seconds of text at the beginning of the film.
The battle scenes themselves were fine. It had some interesting subtleties but a foreign viewer would probably need to watch it twice to understand whatās going on with subtitles. The whole thing is muddled by weird angles and it would have been better to explain the nuances from the Japanese side as well.
300 was fun because it was about a man who rebelled against the corrupt clergy and senate. He wanted to defend his family from a horde of elephants, alchemists, barbarians and immortals. We actually got to see what that family was like. Rise of an Empire and The Admiral makes no effort to make the conflict at all challenging to overcome nor do they really give a relatable reason for them to be fighting in the first place.
The South Korean films, āThe Admiralā and āOde to My Fatherā were both named in the top ten highest grossing foreign films in North America for 2014.Ā āThe Admiralā brought in $2,590,000 USD in North American box office sales, while āOde to My Fatherā earned $2,280,000 USD.

The Admiral: Roaring Currents Movie Review
Epic and expressive enough to make people watch in awe
Totally daebak!
This is the most epic Korean movie Iāve watched because of the whole production and amazing acting of the actors.
It really makes me speechless because it teaches a lot of lessons-- show the value of human life and how people survive in the midst of struggles.
One incredible movie you should watch because of its blockbuster production from wardrobe, actors, cinematography and effects.
Choi Min Sik is truly remarkable actor for he showed his talent of being a true actor and he showed who General Yi Sun Sin is.
Educational, historical, cultural, valuable aspects were found in this movie.
Ā It is beyond compare.
Rating: 5/5
Plot:
The film revolves around the titular Battle of Myeongnyang circa 1597, regarded as one of legendary Joseon admiral Yi Sun-sin's most remarkable naval victories, in which he led the only 12 ships remaining in his command to a heroic victory against an invading Japanese fleet numbering 330 vessels.
