They have a sibling dynamic in my mind, with Zeyner being the younger sister and Zachary being the older brother, since Zeyner died at 17 and Zachary is like 19-early 20s. Zeyner is taller tho which annoys Zachary
So they met when Zeyner/Roadwalker was on a walk in the woods and found Zachary struggling with finding his way back to the theater (he gets lost A LOT, especially without Puppeteers help). Zachary was pretty apprehensive and annoyed with her at first but after wandering for like an hour or so, he reluctantly let Zeyner help him
They were very slow to becoming friends, with Zachary being kinda annoyed and frustrated with Zeyner but Zeyner was always pretty patient with him, tho they did return the bickering.
Once Zachary does genuinely get attached tho, he kinda pities Zeyner and while hes a bit unnerved being around her, he doesn't want to push her away. Shes done nothing wrong to him and does care a lot abt him, and she even brings him and Emra gifts when she visits
While usually with Zachary, Id say Zachary sees himself in the people he takes cares of and looks after and surrounds himself with, Zeyner is nothing like him. She doesn't have his anger, she's not confrontational at all, she's not some troubled youth, she's just genuinely kind and patient with him, possibly even too patient. He worries for her bc at first, he sees her as a doormat and weak, before he realizes she doesn't need to be fixed or anything, shes just genuinely a good person and that kinda freaks Zachary out
They also bring out the best of each other the more time they spend together I think. Zachary helps Zeyner stand up for herself while Zeyner helps Zachary learn to put his anger and fear into productive things. I can imagine shes the one who gets Zachary more into arts and crafts, like making jewelry out of old cans and stuff
I also feel like Zachary becomes attached to Zeyner because she is what typically Puppeteers victims are. She hates herself, she's quiet and doesn't have many friends or family, she's lonely and depressed and is more willing to do things for those around her. Despite her being a ghost, she's tired of her existence, and probably could've been targeted by Puppeteer because of that. Even tho she's already dead, Zachary still feels some sort of responsibility to keeping safe for everyone else and herself.
I feel like also if they both had normal lives and Zeyner didn't die, they would've gone to the same highschool and would've become close then too
They also are both protective of the other i think. Zachary more than Zeyner, but once zeyner heard abt Puppeteer, she was petty towards Pup ever since then. They make me giggle bc of the idea of Zeyner being passive aggressive towards him, especially considering Puppeteer is very close with Sadie, her girlfriend. Shes worried of him hurting her like he hurt her best friend
Ive also realized that even tho I dont hc Zeyner as having BPD, I do project my symptoms and intrusive thoughts onto her a lot, so i feel like she'd have a lot of thoughts abt being unworthy for her partners, and she'd have constant thoughts of everyone hating her. Zachary combats this by being aggressively kind and telling her how she's awesome. He has a hard time saying it unless she's talking bad abt herself tho
ANYWAY long story short, they're the siblings they never had and never knew they wanted or needed. Zeyner visits Zachary, Emra, and Rosemary in the woods, and they accept her as family. They make each other better as people with Zachary helping make Zeyner speak for herself, and Zeyner helping Zachary with his anger
