have you heard of that pono player thingamabob? i’m not particularly interested in vinyl (though i can appreciate the difference in sound) but i saw stuff about it on the news yesterday

I hadn't heard of it until you mentioned it just now, but a quick Google search came up with the Kickstarter page.

I get what they're after; the highest quality music that is how the artist him/herself intended it to be heard. It's a pretty cool idea, actually. I've heard too many audio files ripped from YouTube videos and degraded MP3s that came off of mix CDs (remember those?) or file sharing sites, and it's a neat notion that there'd be a piece of technology that'd provide the most optimal listening experience possible.

My thing with vinyl, though, isn't even necessarily the quality of music. The bass lines aren't as heavy for most vinyl music, old records sometimes get worn down and start to have a sort of muffled quality to it, and-- god forbid-- they can get scratched and skip infinitely or jump around, but the notion that you experience the artists musical vibrations directly is beautiful to me.
