Well, the first half of that episode was intensely up-and-down, but the second half had almost nothing that I personally enjoyed. Not to say that it was bad, or anything of the sort; the quality was perfectly fine. But the intense cynicism of this series raised its head in probably the ugliest fashion I’ve seen yet. And yes, what Rick is doing to Morty is extremely obviously emotional abuse.
I’ve mentioned before that I really like Camp Camp because it bucks the traditional values of the modern adult comedy--libertarianism, cynicism, grotesqueness, apathy, and the like. This episode doubled down on literally all of them. It’s possible, I admit, that Rick’s perspective is not supposed to be the writers’, but, to steal a phrase, they did a Morty of a job showing it. Add in all of the toilet humor and the deliberately disgusting alien designs (seriously, is that supposed to be funny?), and I can’t say I had much fun with this one. 2/10 at best.
Next up is Camp Camp again, and I think there’s some holiday specials before the start of season 3? I’m looking forward to it.
This makes me deeply uncomfortable.
