these Evangelical groups trying to advocate that the Founding Fathers were all Christian and would've wanted the nation to be Christian cleverly miss the fact that- even if that were true -most of the Founding Fathers were Episcopalian or directly pre-Episcopalian, so if a state religion were to be established based on the religious alliances of the founding fathers the only inheritors would have to be the Episcopalians
and uh. guess who supports trans ppl and immigrants and women and religious freedom more than basically any large denomination of Christianity in America?
I had the greatest idea for my senior thesis project proposal yesterday. Unfortunately my senior thesis was due a year and a half ago, I'm no longer in academia, and that project was such a disaster that it's a miracle I graduated at all!
Someday I do need to lock in and figure out what the fuck the JDV and Thiel crowd actually want from Catholicism. Cuz it doesn't seem to be the institution of the Vatican, and I'm guessing it doesn't have much to do with being in community with the 40% of Catholics who are Latin American so like what gives
I thiiiiiink they might be into Catholicism as like 'Christianity before it lost its way and became secular" or whatever? It's also probably got something to do with the 'have lots of kids' part?
But yeah I think Catholicism might not be what you're looking for chief.
Dang, can't believe fujoshi get their own god
good for them

been listenin to the radio a bunch lately because my commute is hell, and christian hip hop songs always catch me a little off guard
cuz like, I know how to recognize Those stations when they play Christian Rock, there's just a little hint of youth preacher reverence in the singers' voices that gives them away before you even hear any of the damning (pun intended) lyrical tropes
but when it's hip hop, a lot of the stuff they imitate is already a little bit religious as a baseline, so when they talk about their sins or needing redemption I don't notice at first I just go 'hm this isn't very good hip hop' and then the song ends and some white guy goes "I hope you're having a blessed day today" and I'm like fuck

RLST 27615. Political Religions. 100 Units. Winter.
“Italian Fascism and German National Socialism were more than just political parties or regimes; rather, they had many of the characteristics of religious movements. Moreover, these “political” or “secular religions” were not unprecedented, but had deep cultural and intellectual roots in European modernity. In this course we will trace the history of the sacralization of politics from the French Revolution to World War II. We will look at primary sources in a variety of media—drawing examples from France (Rousseau, Maistre, and Sorel), Germany (Wagner, Nietzsche, Jünger, and Riefenstahl), and Italy (Pareto, D’Annunzio, G. Gentile, and Marinetti)—as well as some of the most important scholarly literature on this topic (Benjamin, Voegelin, and Aron). No prerequisites; all texts will be read in English translation.”
