Sungyeol had been wanting to a good classic rock style song, for a while, since lately most pop songs have been getting on his nerves and he wanted to do something rock for the evaluation. He had put a notice with his eval idea, hoping to get a team before long since he had always wanted to make even more friends. The colors of kpop back in 2012 was something that he had been very intrgued with and yesterday was one of his favorite songs ever so of course, he’d want to do that. It had been very up his alley with the rock sound and he felt like he had the skill to pull it off.
Hopefully someone would see his flyer and he could probably make a new friend while at the same tme working on a song that he had wanted to do for a while. Seeing the door of one of the seocho pratcice rooms open, sungyeol sat up from his spot. “Ah, i take it you saw my advertising haha?” he asked, greeting the figure.

— performing yesterday with: @rksxngyeol (rkserim taking on hoya’s parts)
for the first ever evaluation of serim’s trainee career, it wasn’t terribly awful but not like he could admit it was great either. it made him think and even realize that maybe he was just a little in over his head. he’s always been the type to do things on such a whim but things usually ended well for him. on the other hand, lately, serim’s been thinking that he can’t do things as willy-nilly as he used to.
being just a pretty face is everything that serim’s okay with while he’s training at royal anyways. it’s not like he truly wants to be an idol for that matter. singing nor dancing weren’t on his list of priorities either. at the very least, he figures that he could learn it and increase his own skills just to add it to his repertoire. everything he does, he does for himself anyways.
still, he’s not awful to sabotage his fellow trainees in his eval group. he’s told sungyeol how much of a blank canvas he was anyways. if anything, that made it a bit better, didn’t it? he was able to be molded into an idol if anything. although, seirm absolutely can’t stand conforming to things, he does what he has to to complete this month’s evaluation and end on a good note.
the song isn’t bad by any means. in fact, it’s surprisingly pretty good and he’s even added it into his playlist. the dance is manageable for what it is. although, serim has to put in twice the effort just to be able to remember all the steps and sing at the same time when it’s his part. he knows he’s shitted on idols before but he supposes he’ll give them kudos for being able to multi-task like that. singing and dancing at the same time was not an easy feat by any means whatsoever.
the day of the evaluation finally rolled around and gosh, serim just wanted this over with. if this was how all evaluations were going to be, then he needed a serious wake up call and reality check if this was something he’d really be able to do continuously month after month.
for what it is, though, he’s thankful to sungyeol for putting up with his whiny, bratty self. he knows he complained a lot but he did try to not look like a flailing walrus for their performance.
그리운 날 지나버린 Yesterday
내게서 멀어지는 너
이젠 너와 나와의 기억은 모두
Yesterday 오 Yesterday
with that being said, his singing was definitely not the worst thing out there. very raw and unrefined but with the right kind of training, he could be a lead vocal or something. (maybe in his dreams).
기억들이 나를 떠나간다
온 종일 서서 너만 기다린다
너만 오면 돼 전부 다 버릴게
대체 넌 어디있어
maybe his skills won’t get him far but his charismatic charm should hold its own anyways. as they say, fake it until you make it. if he sings confidently enough, then the technicality of it didn’t quite matter. volume, confidence are sometimes key in this moment.
He was irked to say the least. When the news of the evaluation had come out, Daehwi had immediately thought of a song that he wanted to do and had wanted to perform for a while because of how sweet it was. He had gone around asking people if they wanted to join him, but either they were already in a group or stated that it wasn’t really their style. Strange! People weren’t trying to avoid him, were they? How could they possibly when he was so endearing a person?
No, it was completely incomprehensible why he was having such a hard time. Because it definitely wasn’t because he had limited himself to looking for a female partner and he barely knew any of the female trainees in Nova let alone other companies.
But of course there was no way he could accept a ‘well, then I’ll just sit on my butt and do nothing all month’ solution. Instead he kept his ears open, and one day whilst in the Samsung building he heard two older trainees discussing line distribution and how it was going to be problematic with just the two of them.
Ever the hero, Lee Daehwi had stepped to the rescue! Nobly offered himself without knowing the first and the last thing about what he was signing himself up for. They seemed like cool enough people but then again he had always been really bad at judging people from a first impression so for all he knew they could both be massive bullies. If that was the case he’d deal with it then. For now though, he was ready to face his new fate as third wheel in this impromptu evaluation group.

line distribution
On the list of things Daehwi absolutely didn’t want to do, this whole thing was ranking pretty high. It wasn’t because of the Spanish of which he knew a grand total of zero. No, that wasn’t uncomfortable to him. It was the fact that Jordan had wanted to dance as well in this evaluation and the dance was... well... rather sensual. As was the song. He supposed it would have to come sooner or later, but he’d preferred later, maybe when he was more mature and not just a sixteen year old who thought it was embarrassing to hip thrust.
Which was, by the way, also the main reason he had not covered Luxe’s new song yet. At least not publicly.
But he had already agreed to joining his two seniors, and thus there was no take backs. Beside it had proven harder than he thought to find someone to do what he had originally had in mind with than initially thought. How strange. Did people just hate cuter songs or what? That was not going to prove well for him who wanted to debut with a more refreshing and maybe even cutesy theme to him. But Daehwi supposed that an idol could not pick and choose. He just had to get used to doing whatever was pushed down his head.
Plus, he got to see Jordan absolutely struggle with the Spanish which was an amusing sight in and of itself. Not that the teenage boy actually knew if he was doing alright or not although he thought he could hear a difference in when the older boy did it and when the original singer did it in the music sample. By the end of the month Daehwi even found himself trying to sing along on his own, but failing just as much at doing so considering he hadn’t spent a lot of time practicing the foreign language that sounded nothing like English.
Not to say it was completely bad though despite his discomfort, for he really did find it funny working with the two senior trainees. Jordan was a funny guy and Daehwi felt comfortable around him, also partly from them not being too far apart in age, although if he had to be completely honest by now it just felt like a given that other trainees were both his sunbaes in training and in life.
By the end of the day Daehwi had got to show off everything he could do, so he was happy. Jordan seemed satisfied too even though Daehwi had picked up some mistakes here and there. And Sungmin, despite having been initially completely against singing, even managed to let out a few harmonious notes to the best of his ability. If that wasn’t a success, Daehwi didn’t know what was.
gone was her dream evaluation, as was their weekend away in busan. it was back to reality for rose and the other girls, and onto yet another evaluation. although this time round, it wasn’t so much at rose’s speed. in her own head, she perceived herself as a weak dancer, which was hardly the case. it wasn’t like she hated dancing, she just liked singing a lot better. she felt like she was in her element with singing, like she didn’t need to be too careful. dancing on the other hand meant she had to be one hundred and ten percent focused to ensure she wouldn’t slip up.
june was here. they were almost mid year. how had this year gone by so quickly? in another six months, rose would be making the big decision of whether she wanted to sign that contract or not. on the case that they actually give it to her. rose glances across to lisa’s reflection in the studio. she was grateful to be paired with both lisa and jisoo for yet another evaluation, it always put her mind at ease knowing she had them to lean on if need be.
“this is a bit more up your alley, right?” rose asks, taking a swing from her drink bottle as they put a pause on the next section of the routine. “i’m just grateful we won that weekend away, if i’m being honest.” she says with a smile.
