As we wind down 2017, I’m left reflecting on something that happened a few weeks ago that I forgot to tell you about. I met David Lebovitz. I’ve admired his work for years and am still somewhat an avid reader of his blog. I love his approach to cooking as well as his love of beautiful ingredients and of course, Paris. For my birthday, I pre-ordered his copy of L’Appart which was released a few days before this book signing.
I went totally on a whim as I subscribe to his newsletter and saw the book signing event listed. It was an hour away from my house and on top of me driving an hour to and from work already that day I wasn’t sure if I should go. This did truly mean a lot to me and something I’d get to cross off my bucket list. I flashed back to the day I met Chris Prosperi with Cristina a few years ago and remember how excited and memorable that was. Also, with Cristina in mind I thought life is too short and I knew I’d love to meet him. So after a long day at work, I legit inhaled some (awful) take out (sidebar: for some reason most of the chain restaurants in my town SUCK as was the case with this meal. I know why even bother with a chain restaurant?) And I was on my merry way. I left with plenty of time but there was construction on my way that took me in a terrible detour, I got lost, didn’t have service for my GPS. I was swearing, there was some road rage on my part but I made it.
The event was held at R.J. Julia Booksellers right in downtown Madison, CT. It was my first time there the space was adorable. It’s your quintessential New England mom ‘n pop type store. They have a cafe in the back which sadly was closed during the event. I’d love to go back get a mug of tea and look at all the beautiful books.
Sadly, since I was late I did miss much of his talk but did get to see the tail end of it. I’m so happy I went, he was so wonderful in person and it was a rewarding and memorable experience. I told him how much I admire him (in my natural fan girl state) he was gracious and such a delight, some one I’d definitely take out to lunch ;}
