atlas. pannacotta’s shoulders carry a lot of weight and as a child his backpack was always laden with extensive texts and books. it plays a significant role as a catalyst to fugo’s hunched shoulders. fugo would carry that pack to his grandmothers every weekend. though the weight fugo felt sitting on him seemed so diminutive in comparison to when fugo’s nonna lifted the bag off his shoulders. even in her age her strength was remarkable. 

she would effectively relieve fugo of his responsibility. physically removing fugo’s burden from him. 

fugo’s nonna always used to ask before she did it, “may i take your bag for you panna?” and fugo would always tell her that it was “fine” that he would just “…put it on the counter when he walked in.” though it wouldn’t stop her and eventually she stopped asking for permission.

fugo never did much homework or reading when he was over

fugo is a good soldato, you could even call him a great one. it’s just a habit of efficiently without asking questions,   he’s a good mindless pawn and he knows this. 

fugo has never been good at expressing himself; he holds back on a lot and internally he’s just a cup of emotions, but once a cup fills up he puts a lid on it and stacks another cup on top. fugo’s always consider himself more able than emotionally available (adds into the job efficiently) and so channeling those weekend moments with his grandmother fugo’s biggest act of love is just shouldering someone else’s responsibility.

fugo’s decision to bear anyone’s responsibility is one he makes out of pure devotion and love. the biggest example is during the sleeping slaves arc fugo asks if he should be the one to take over the issue regarding the sculptor; quoting something along the lines to bruno “you’re set to become a capo yourself. there’s no need for you to spend your time on these matters.” 

everyone’s time is important; nothing about this job is easy and like his nonna before him seeing anyone suffering under the stresses this job generates fugo’s feels compelled to take their bag off their shoulders. maybe he’ll take over the routes bruno assigned to mista for the day. maybe he’ll go gather signore’s protection money instead of narancia. maybe he’ll update the records in abbacchio’s stead.

who would be horrible enough to run into the flower shop, knock over the flower pots just to steal a flower?

oh, the goose always had that flower. really. no lie.

it’s running away because it has a date with another pretty goose who it must give the flower to.

          How strange it is, this human compassion in the form of concern. It is enough to still her motions—sorting flowers in a shop that has not yet open for the day, delicate fingers wrapped around the fragile stem of a lily. There is a wild and righteous part of her, perhaps the girl she once was lost and memoryless on the mountainside, that wants to air her grievances, a list that will never end—not for her, not for others like her. But she is not one to let her anger be a free flowing and living thing—there is a strength in that she has not found herself willing to carry. Words and empty smiles that do not quite reach her eyes, however ? Susukihotaru has always been alarmingly good at those.
