well, well, well... it seems youâve all survived this long. everything is getting a bit too friendly and i donât know about you guys, but weâre getting bored. it seems youâve all forgotten this is a competition, so why donât we remind you by turning up the heat a bit?
for this task, youâll be participating with your house mates. thatâs right, each house will receive a different task. to see what youâre doing, find your house UNDER THE CUT.Â
task six will be completed through either self para or a para/thread with another member of your house. the starter of the thread/self para MUST be tagged with #rivalrytask006Â and to be complete don't by the 9TH OF AUGUSTÂ to be seen by the producers. if ALL members of the house succeed in the given task, each person in your house will get to make one phone call home. BUT, should any person fail, they will receive a strike against them, their house will not get to call home, and they will be one step closer to their secret being revealed. not too much pressure, though, right? that being said, continue reading below to see what youâll be faced with this week.
best of luck.
BAYVIEW MANOR
for your sixth task, all members of the house will recreate their audition tape for rivalry island. much like the interview from task three, a crew member will assist you in taping your âauditionâ for the show. think back on how you were feeling when you sent in that first audition tape for the casting directors; now channel that, put on your game face, and get it into action. the tape can be no longer than FIVE MINUTES and must touch on the following topics: why you could win rivalry island, any special talents or skills you have that could set you apart from other applicants, what your current job is, and where you see yourself in five years. this will be completed through SELF PARA, formatted similar to the third task. PEARL WATERS MANOR
for your sixth task, all members of your house will be needing their swim suits. thatâs right, youâre taking a dip. all house members will head down to the docks where a boat will take you to a lagoon, and the fun doesnât end there. see, weâve taken the liberty of jumbling some shells and rocks in this marked area of the lagoon--though we canât stop whatever pleases to swim there from getting in ( or out ). youâll each be given a snorkel, wet suit, and FIVE MINUTES to find the shell with your name on it. five minutes may sound like enough, but donât get too comfortable, especially when you see how tricky and crowded it can be under the sea. we suggest you start making friends with the fish now. this will be completed through either self para or thread/para with another member of your house.
SAND LAURELS MANOR
for your sixth task, all members of your house will be completing an obstacle course. ever watched the hit reality competition show survivor?? well, youâll be taxed with something similar and just as physically demanding, so start stretching now. one by one, each member of the house will have to move a burlap sack containing stones, through the water and course, using the rope the sack it attached to. youâll maneuver over, under, and through different obstacles to complete the course. oh, and youâll also only be given FIVE MINUTES to move the bag from the starting platform to the beach, where youâll dump the stones onto the scale and raise your house flag just a little higher. should any house member fail to complete the course and place the stones in under the allowed time, well... you know what happens. this will be completed through either self para or thread/para with another member of your house. ( reference video here for the course/layout )
SEASCAPE MANOR
for your sixth task, all members of your house will be partaking in a little game that will test your balance and strength. individually, you will stand on a narrow beam, and hold a buoy between two pole handles. sounds simple, correct? wrong. your endurance, balance, and perseverance will be tested in this challenge of mental and physical strength. each house member must balance and hold the buoy between the handles for FIVE MINUTES without falling from the beam or dropping the buoy. should you fail before the given time, your house will not get to call home, and you will be one tease closer to your precious secret being told to the world. this will be completed through SELF PARA. Five minutes. Five minutes was all it would take. To be able to hear the voice of her sister from the other side of the world, or for the rest of her house to hate her for a while. And with good reason â surely everyone was missing their families by now. Oh, come on, stop being so melodramatic, Avery silently told herself, steeling her mind and trying to concentrate solely on the task that lay ahead. She wasnât stupid enough to think it would be easy â the minimal episodes of Survivor sheâd seen had taught her that much. So as she stepped onto the thin, wooden beam, she forced her mind to remain blank, and ignored the presence of her housemates situated either side of her. Just stay loose and keep your muscles relaxed. Before the clock started its countdown, Avery took a moment to close her eyes, exhaling slowly as she rolled her shoulders. The whistle sounded and she quickly took the two poles in her hands, lifting the buoy. The blonde looked out at the horizon, finding a point to concentrate on. This is what gymnasts do right? Find a point to stare at so they keep their balance? Four minutes. Avery was becoming increasingly aware of her aching biceps, her feet pressing into the wood beneath her, her wandering mind that didnât want to stay focused. I mean, it hurts a little but I havenât dropped this stupid buoy yet so thatâs a good sign. Three minutes. She was beginning to find it very difficult to hold her arms up. The poles were swaying up and down ever so slightly. Hold on, hold on, you canât let the others down. Time was too insignificant to focus on at this point. I canât wait to hear Maggieâs voice. What felt like half an hour had passed, though Avery believed there couldnât be more than a minute left. Her arms were burning, searing with pain. Well, upper body strength is certainly not my strong point. Iâd take running a few kilometres over this any day. She had managed this far without any near-slips, but when one of the producers called out, âThirty seconds to go!â it startled her out of her reverie, causing the buoy to slip a few heart-stopping centimetres. She leaned forward slightly, managing to keep the round object above the ground, but only barely. She stared at the buoy and loosed a breath she hadnât realised sheâd been holding. Her eyes didnât rove from the item in front of her from then on. She counted the seconds in her head, sure that she would be able to let this bloody ball drop at any moment. She did not move a muscle, too afraid it would disrupt the buoy to alter her uncomfortable position. A sudden, distant call of âTime!â had her stumbling off the beam and kneeling on the ground, her arms heavy beside her. She looked around at her cast mates, shocked she had actually completed the challenge. With any luck, sheâd be speaking to her sister within the hour.
In truth, Sebastian didnât owe anyone anything at all. There was absolutely no one on the show that he had to do anything for. He kept that in mind as he stepped up onto the narrow balance beam and steadied himself to also hold up the buoy in a difficult fashion for the allotted time.Â
Five minutes. Five minutes was all it took to win this little challenge. If he could even call it that. If they wanted to give Sebastian a challenge then it shouldnât have been something he was mostly good at. Maintaining his balance on the slim wooden perch wasnât going to be an issue. He had months at a times worth of ballet in training in his back pocket. Years of training on the ice, where balance was absolutely crucial. The only real challenge surfaced with the decision to participate.Â
What reason did he have to complete this task? The given opportunity to call home is wasted with him. He could already hear it...his motherâs voice delayed just a few seconds after the message was meant to start to signify that she hadnât answered the phone. The automated voice telling him to âLaissez un message après le bip.â If by some chance someone did answer the phone theyâd probably have no idea who they were speaking to. It wasnât like they ever paid that much attention let alone let him speak all too often. He didnât have anyone to speak to back âhomeâ. Sebastian wasnât going to make a phone call.
However, he was well aware that wasnât the case for everyone. Just because he wasnât going to get anything significant out of this didnât mean he had the right to take it away from others.Â
He wasnât doing this for himself.Â
In truth, Sebastian didnât owe anyone anything at all. There was absolutely no one on the show that he had to do anything for. So he wasnât doing this because he had to. He was doing it because he wanted to. His family life was most likely vastly different than the otherâs. He kept that in mind as he stepped up onto the narrow balance beam and steadied himself to also hold up the buoy in a difficult fashion for the allotted time.Â
One foot in front of the other, it only took a moment for Sebastian to position himself correctly. The poles heâd use to support the light sky blue buoy in front of him were already in his hands. Placing them into the spherical device proved harder than it seemed. The dips in the side of the ball were no where near as deep as they needed to be if this was going to be easy, but of course it wasnât. He was facing a double edged balancing act. Having to maintain himself and the round object in the air for five minutes.Â
His legs were much stronger than his arms. He hardly ever did much with his arms. All they did was float through the air in an attempt to seem graceful while his lower half did all the work. Holding the buoy in place was difficult. It almost seemed to taunt him each time it moved though it was his own fault. Too much pressure on one side made it tilt towards the other and he had to compensate and squirm some to keep the object balanced against the poles and up in the air.Â
Leaning forward some, he clenched his jaw and closed his eyes. Five minutes never seemed very long outside of the time constraint, but he had already lost track of how long it had been and how much longer he needed to stay like that. So he just needed to focus instead. He focused on placing an equal amount of pressure on both ends of the poles to hold the buoy exactly where he wanted it. A few tilts here and there forced his eyes open, but he hadnât wavered much. He hands and arms were doing a lot more moving than the rest of him. His feet and overall balance kept perfectly fine and planted.Â
Sustaining the same position for five minutes straight put a strain on anyone, no matter how simple the task. So it made sense that he could feel the pull of the muscles in his upper arms as the time drew near to a close. He began fidgeting a little more. It was like him to internally panic in the last few seconds. In that home stretch with all of the hunger for success. He never thought clearly. He acted instead. Sometimes they proved to be all the wrong moves. He moved the poles once more andâ
Time!
He only looked away for a second. His head turning, attention turning to where the voice had called out to him. He a second, a moment to blink, to look back  at the light blue sphere slipping from its position just two seconds after time had been called. He sprung himself from the beam, moving his foot in time to save it from being hit by the object as it fell. The buoy bounced twice and he dropped the poles on the ground just after.Â
It was over. He completed the task. A balance beam. A buoy. Five minutes. All for a phone call home for everyone else in his manor. That is of course if they stepped up to the challenge and completed the task for themselves.Â
